I've heard the phrase 'jumped the shark' several times, but have no clue what it means. Would somebody be kind enough to explain?
It refers to Fonzie literally jumping the shark in Happy Days and means the point in a series at which the characters or plot veer into a ridiculous, out-of-the-ordinary storyline.
Wikipedia has a nice article about it.

ah heck, nevada may be a lot of desert but there's no way in heck the promie could take off even just ONCE and no one sees it.
air line pilots, AF pilots from nellis, weather satellites, spy satellies....teh second that ship was based on earth and lands and takes off regularly they 'jumped the shark' in deniability and even a hint of reality
As someone who used to live in Las Vegas, take it from me even taking off, Promie would register as a high level earthquake. Also the sheer size of the ship would have people on the local highways and streets looking in shock and awe.

That would be explained away by the Prommie having a perception filter or a chameleon circuit or a "Somebody Else's Problem field".

(thump-thump cars are those idiots that put huge freaking speakers in their back seats/trunks, then play nothing but bass to create this masively loud and annoying booming/vibration)
and, i remembered, there's also no way they just let the promie come and go, not when they h ave to navigate through the satellites, even run of the millcommunication sats, along with weather sats and let's not forget the ISS up there orbiting AND all that space junk that's floating up there

The "low riders" in Vegas. See, we explained how come there are earthquakes in Nevada.
Certain fans are like that as well. MS can leave and come back and it's no problem. RDA wants to come back and it's the end of the world. In a way I can understand it. RDA brings back memories when Jack was the star and the show was a hit and it touches a nerve for certain fans.
RDA & the character of Jack was a big part of what worked about the show. But the original 4 just had a chemistry that you can't duplicate. Not to mention the fact that the writers didn't have to write in lines like "he's part of this family" and stuff like that to convince us that the characters' had a bond with each other. It grew and developed over time.
