Ok, so I watched "Fallout" to look for footage for my McShep vid (which will include a Jack/Daniel montage) and I noticed something I hadn't noticed before, because I was now studying people's mouths (I was specifically looking for funny faces, smiles and tongue porn from Michae Shanks).

And lo and behold, Corin Nemec does the tongue porn thing as well! O_o. He kinda does it more than Michael Shanks! Well, not more often, but normally, Michael does it at the end of a sentence or inbetween sentences.

Corin just throws it out there randomly! O_o o_O Are they trying to kill me by making too much blood rush south?!

If tonge porn is what I think it is, then I think I know the reason why it appears so often among actors. When I was taking a Theator Appriciation class the professor told us that the actor's instrument is their mouths. To warm up, they have to trace their tonge around the inner tissue of their mouths in a circle. So anyone who has been theator trained might just do this without thinking about it as they wait to say their next line. Some may even us this as a way of thinking about what line to say next, or if they actually need to think about what facial expression to use.

No, tongue porn in this case is licking your lips. Which Michael Shanks does... all the time. I counted 6 just for Fallout. And that's just the 6 that were obvious and on camera!

I've been capping the episodes and he does do it all the time. I've actually had to start deleting those caps first when I sort through them - unless they're particularly cute.
What Amanda has just posted is interesting, because I think sometimes it is what he is subconciously doing. I notice he does it more regularly when prepping himself for a line which is emotionally more tense (frustration or anger usually). Weirdly, not often when it involves regurgitating a whole lot of dialogue at once.

I think what happens with the longer diolouge scenes is that they likely practice those more then their other lines. So when they are filming it, it looks more natural.
