So when Mama was asked to forstall the issue happening, she instructed her people accordingly.

Think about it from this point of view...would you want someone taking pictures of your bum/chest/whatever and plastering it online? With you not even having a say so on the pictures chosen?

While We realize that to a degree Celebs are public figures, they do have/need personal time and a degree of privacy.
During Smoke Breaks, Meals, after hours at the bar, and personal breaks, unless the talent tell you different, these are 'no-no-no' areas.
No approaching, No photos, No signatures.
And for the sake of the gods watch for the 'sneak camera'...no Pictures of specific body parts!

Very good information and a good rule of thumb. Could you post that up on the "Convention Etiquette" Thread? Especially before cons. That should be highlighted for everyone.

Okay, I'm all medicated up and my head feels like a helium filled bubble (thanks for the kind wishes, btw), but I am ready to attempt my personal story of the wonderful Cliff Simon.

Cliff arrived at the hotel shortly after lunch on Saturday. Someone said he was looking for me. He had apparently told them, 'I need to say 'hi' to Pat or she'll kill me'. Since we seemed to keep missing each other (my next report was that he was in the room with the Stargate props looking around), I decided to stay in one place where we could not help but meet. I stood in the main hallway just outside the ballroom where everything was happening. Someone approached me and we started talking. Then, there was Cliff. He gave me a big hug. He had gone to my room to look for me. What a sweetie. We chatted for a few minutes about the fan party on Thursday and about a prank I had pulled on David from Gateworld. I have Cliff's South Africa Driver's license. During the gateworld dinner when prizes were being drawn, our entry was our license. I tossed Cliff's into the batch. It got pulled and when I went up to get the prize (a nice Sanctuary T-shirt), David said, 'you're not Cliff.' I replied, 'no, he wanted me to get him a little something'. Everyone laughed.

Anyway, back to the con. Cliff got waylayed by several fans, so I let him do his Celebrity thing, talking to everyone and stood back while he chatted with people. Then his 'handler' or security person showed up and he went out onto a balcony for a smoke. I later headed to the balcony and ran into another person. We got to chatting again. When Cliff headed back inside, he brushed his hand over the back of my shoulders to let me know he was leaving. He had to get on stage. The person with me said, "He touched you?" I told her, "yes, we are friends." She seemed very surprised.

Cliff on stage: He was asked about any possibility of being on Atlantis or the next series. He said it would happen if the fans ask for it (hint hint). He said that he is in Continuum, the movie, but hasn't seen a script for it yet. Then, some wicked woman approached him to take off his shirt. He said he would do it for charity. So, a bunch of us, including Teryll Rothery ran around the ballroom grabbing money from people. We made $1300.00 for Make-A-Wish. Teryl was shoving the money into her bra. Cliff took off his shirt and then Carmen said, "Hey, what about me?" and took off his shirt Carmen sure is buff for a man in his 60's.

Later on that evening, the Gold Ticket holders went to a Dessert Party. Cliff, Carmen, Steve Bacic, Andee Frizzell and Teryl Rothery came around to visit the tables. Of course, I was paying most of my attention to Cliff. Got into trouble once from his security; once for touching him on the arm (No, because all the other fans will think they can touch him too.) And once when I tried to take a picture of his bum when he was at another table. The security person just shook her head at me. Gee, I wonder if someone told her to keep an eye on me. Cliff chatted with everyone at the table as he usually does. I can't remember what he said though. D'uh!

Of course, I also had my picture taken with him at the photo ops. Sunday morning he was at another photo op with Michael Shanks. It was a Cliff/Micheal sandwich. Yum!! That picture hasn't been developed yet. I'll try to get it up on here when it is. At the end of the Cliff/Michael photo op, he said he'd be going and gave me a big hug. I wouldn't be seeing him after the shoot. So, the next time is in Chicago in August. We are working on setting up a boat tour of the Chicago river with some celebrity guests.

That is good to know.

If I'm happy and excited I tend to hug people when I first say hello/spot them, whoever they are, and that's a natural instinct I'd have to restrain at a convention (apart from you lot, you wouldn't be allowed to get away from a big hello hug )

Thank you AG for the wonderful pics. I dont think I got any of Cliff...as I was just trying for the first time to pay attention to what was being asked and his responses to the questions. I do remember going out to the balcony for a smoke myself and of course CS was outside with Mama Duck...I did pull out my camera only to get a great pic of the mountains...as this was the first time they were visable. I distinclty remember the look she gave me..i reasurred her I wasnt interested in getting any paparozzi pics of cliff... which I didnt. I am a good fangirl.

From my experiences I know, the talent are great people. They will seldom speak out and tell a fan 'no' unfortunately when there is one of them and 500 fans, this can be tiring. The job of the escort is to say 'no' to be the bad guy, and make sure that the talent get thier 'me' time.
As Mama says "if someone dont call me 'that big mean redheaded biotch' at least once during the con (even tho it gets me in trouble) I havent done my job right"
Someone has to be the bad guy, otherwise nothing gets done

Oh, I forgot to mention that I got caught up in the moment and put Cliff on the spot by asking him to take off his shirt. He was very kind and obliged. He could have said no. He had not intended to do that again. Later, I apologized, but I could tell he was a bit miffed at me. You do not want Cliff miffed at you. He told me, "I will not do that again, so don't ask me." But, I think everything is fine again since he did give me a hug goodbye at the end of the day.

Like I have said they are actors, and will do their best not to dissapoint the fans, but sometimes there has to be someone else to say "NO" for them. Unlike Mama, he cant run from the room to escape his fate.
