Yes Thunk Thread but we here at the Cameron Discussion and Appreciation need one too.

I already mentioned it in the Thunk Thread, Cathain.

On the look-out for that particular shot

Well, what did you all think of Mitchell/Ben in the episode? Character development? Leadership? Relationships to team and others? Ben's acting?
I'm afraid I wont be able to see it until tonight and I'm meanwhile steering clear of the threads until I can see for myself.

I'm looking forward to reading everyone's thoughts later.

Ben really blew me away in this episode, which had its touches of the movie The Last Samurai but anyway - I loved the humor he brought to Cameron even while faced with this

                  hostage situation
and I think we really got to see some friendship form between SG-1 and Cam when
                  Spoiler:
Landry says they're going to stop looking for him. Sam and Daniel weren't about to let that happen...

All in all - bravo Ben!

As for Babylon (or as I like to abreviate it, Baby ) Ben was just FANTASTIC! What action! And I'm really liking Cam even more now. He was soooo cool under pressure. After his previous "you really shoulda died" experience, he's not about to take anything at face value. No matter how many times someone might tell him that he "will certainly die" in this ep, he just won't believe it. And without that annoying arrogance common to pilots and many officers. He's already "faced death" and survived, so he knows it's possible to live through events that could be deadly. If he's gonna die, you're really gonna have to kill him, or he won't believe it! Gotta love the spunk!

The Hong Kong Twist action was fantastic! Really beautiful fights, and you can totally tell that it's Ben doing his own work there! There were a couple falls that made me cringe, too. I began to wonder if he'd left the set bruised and battered, or if that was all acting! He's just that good!

I liked seeing the rest of the team working to "save" him, and the fact that he basically saved himself. There were a couple transparent plot points, but that's just SG for ya. Ben raised the bar for performance, imo. The rest of SG-1 did what they could and had to face the very real possibility that they might have to quit because of real budgetary concerns by the $$$ men. I usually hate the politics interferring in the show, but the way they established the new rl problems of the SGC this season is much less intrusive and easier to deal with for me. Even though the rl problems crop up more often, there isn't a meddling senator stealing the show from the team.

Is it just me, or was Amanda better in this ep than she was in the last two?

Cameron did show that he's the undisputed leader of the team, even though Sam calls him Cameron on the radio (being a peer and all). She, as well as the other two, did retreat when he told them too. Of course, Sam's not an idiot and called for reinforcements when she realized that she couldn't get Cam on the radio and that they needed to go back for him. She took charge of the team then, but not before. I think this will work out nicely.

                    Kas? You see it yet?

Can't wait to watch this one again!!! Want more Cam! (Ooooo, better get over to the thunk thread!!! Need more ARM PORN!!!) *thud*

That would be much better than the boxing Teal'c's done with other SG-1 members. Can we have a couple sparring matches, please?

I've watched Babylon 4 times now and quoting Mitchell "Worth it." Mitchell i feel really showed his leadership skills last nite. This show needs a character like Mitchell simply just for his 'open mind' and his ability to learn and embrace any situation he is force to be in. He shows respect for others and they in kind respect him. Between the two warriors, i'm refereing to Mitchell and Sodan warrior he injured, watching how each was treated by their captors, which one was treated more humanly? Compassion and respect was gained more than interrigation and threats. I like Mitchell's never-give-up attitude. SG-1 needs him for a leader. But i almost feel like the other members of the team were not so open-minded. I know they have done more travels and they are experienced on how to handle things. I'm note sure if i'm wording this the way i want to make sense. I see Mitchell coming in with fresh ideas and new attitude of how to deal with situations that they(the SG team) can learn something from him. Any comments?
Mitchell: I like crazy that's why i took this job!

I just loved this episode and Ben was incredible! He has created a very likeable, interesting character in Cameron Mitchell and I'm hoping TPTB will continue now to bring his character front and center in the episodes going forward.

I still haven't yet managed to see the eppy due to technology hitches and am avoiding everything other than the photos until I've seen it. So a quick fly through to BUMP the discussion thread.

Wow, just wow. That was a fantastic change of pace. Loved the emphasis on characterisation and action rather than exposition. I don't care if it was similar to an ST-TOS, that fact was homaged nicely ("Bones") and I haven't seen Last Samurai but it wouldn't be the first time aspects of film-making was used in a series. It's the execution of the storyline that's important and that was very nicely done fitting in to the new threat.

He most certainly did. Not only with the action, doing the stunts himself but every line delivery. He is a beautiful actor to watch... the quirks, the expressions, the body movements... all naturally and effortlessly present. Ben lives the character and everything is just how one would react. He never keeps still, words are not just performed aimlessly but with purpose. He was allowed to unleash here and what a lovely performance. Cameron Mitchell is developing very nicely.

I loved his pronounced Southerness... the walk through the woods, the imitation of Teal'c (knowing that he was listening - loved the grin as he caught Teal'c cocking his head to hear)

I really liked this aspect as well. Mitchell is a leader and a survivor. He knew that it was up to him to save himself from this situation - time was against any quick rescue - and he did it did it quietly and with understanding of the Sodan - gaining the respect of one brother as he did so. (I also believe the Leader was regretful of having to have the honor fight too. He certainly respected the effort and courage that he displayed)

I'm sure that Mitchell is a fairly religious man - those weekends at grandma's possibly but also his brush with near-death experience for one. He used much intelligence to win through and by sowing the seeds of doubt with his well argued points said straight from the heart... giving them a greater truth, he may have saved a race.

Can't wait for the meeting of Mitchell and the Sodan again. One brother as an ally, the other as a foe. The threads that were established make for an interesting meeting indeed.

Very interesting observation Galaxygrl. One captured warrior had the chance to win with honor (very unlikely it may be) but was treated with tolerance all the time in the Sodan land. He gained the real respect through his actions... never giving up and through his genuine concern for the Sodan situation. The Earth way was to cure the captor, ready him for immediate interragation, where he was placed under guard, and dealt with aggressively - although they were trying to make him understand, it was with an element of force rather than respect and tolerance. Mitchell's arrival changed that approach. and by granting him his freedom, having fed him the aspect of truth to hopefully use wisely, was a wise tactical move and another insight into his character.

It was an interesting contrast and doubly interesting to see that the usual Earth military way was not the correct way to proceed in this instance.
