Ah, the joys of living with your 19 year old brother. My action figures never used to rearrange themselves before I let him move in.

But then again, it did make me laugh pretty hard, so I can't say much.

Vala’s pissed at him and Cameron’s pissed at her and somehow that means they have sex. They have sex on the floor, not the bed, on the floor of the house he’s built for them, and he tells her how much he ****ing hates that she lets other guys hit on her and doesn’t say anything, and she tells him how badly it makes her feel when he walks past her every day and acts like she’s not even there, how she can hear him when he jerks off and doesn’t he know that she’s right here and by the time he gets her naked he’s still mad but he can’t remember what for anymore.

Afterward she rolls away and cries and he moves with her. He wraps his arms around her and pulls her back, whispers apologies into her hair. He’s still adjusting to her weird lack of moral code, still telling himself what he can and can’t do based on the rules that don’t exist anymore. She’s his team member, she’s Daniel’s girl.

“I’m not,” she hisses at him, looking and sounding affronted. “I never was. I’m no one’s girl. Whatever might have happened between myself and Daniel is none of your concern.”

(He won’t know for a while, for at least a year, that nothing happened. It’ll be a cold night when they’re huddled together laughing over something when she looks at him and spills that little truth and he’ll be so annoyed and so relieved but he’ll go with relief because that’s what feels better.)

“Been so hard,” he murmurs, once she’s calmed down a little, once she lets him touch again. “Vala, we’ve been pretending to be married for a year. :iving with you, being this close to you all the time, acting that way when there are other people around – I’m not made of stone. You’re beautiful, and I… I feel things.”

“You think I don’t?” She tucks her head, not looking at him anymore. “Do you think I’m incapable?”

Of loving? No.

Of loving him? Maybe.

He isn’t sure what to say. She sits up and grabs her shirt, one of his that she’d swiped. She likes it better than the night wear for women here. He watches her, the glistening moisture between her legs, the smooth pale lines of her body. “Vala…”

She ignores him and walks into the bathroom.

He leans against the door, still talking. “Of course I know you can feel things, Vala. It’s just hard for me – I tried to explain. It’s hard for me, feeling like you still belong to someone else. It didn’t stop me from falling in love with you, but it stopped me from acting on it. What was I supposed to do? Go ahead and throw myself out there? What if you’d said no?”

“So you take that decision away from both of us?” She flings open the door. Her hair is a mess and her mouth is swollen and god she’s the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen. “You don’t make decisions for me, Cameron Mitchell. I decide who I want, and what I want.”

“And you want me?” He asks.

“No, dear, the violent passionate sex was all to spare your feelings,” she rolls her eyes. “Yes, you absolute idiot, I want you.”

He grins.

He can’t help it. He knows it isn’t the appropriate reaction here, but she just said she wants him, and it makes him grin.

Her expression softens somewhat, though she tries her best to keep it stern. “I’m still very angry with you.”

“I know. Baby, I’ll bring you flowers and candy every day for a week, but come here.” He looks at her, waits for her to make a move, and when she does step toward him he pulls her into his arms. “Vala, I’m so in love with you, you gotta know that.”

“Of course you are,” she sniffles delicately. “What man wouldn’t be?”

He laughs, pressing his face into her hair. Her arms come up and wrap around him and she relaxes into the embrace.
