    Time for RDA to quit?

ok i can just imagine the flames and neg rep im gonna get for this but whatever. I think its time for RDA to quit. he has done an amazing job for 8 years, but now he is going to be in an even more reduced role for season 9, so whats the point? i think he should step down completely from the show and devote his fool time to his little girl like he wants. splitting his time between the show and his daughter means neither one is getting his full attention. I say he should step down from the show completely and not even be a recurring character any more. Maybe he could guest star for an episode and then come back for the series finale (hopefully a couple years from now). if he cant devote himself fully to one responsibility or the other, i think he should quit the show and devote his time to his daughter. its gotta be really hard on him and on her

I see where you're coming from...I think it is time for him to end on top....like right now....

and I guess only I have replied so far because everybody in the US is asleep while "everyone" in Europe must have a massive hangover from last night...like i have...but now I'm kinda showing off and getting of topic... sorry bro.......I also the think the whole idea is pretty stale right now...i.e. that Jack should go
Jackson: Hathor was the Egyptian goddess of fertility, inebriety, and music.
O'Neill: Sex, drugs, and rock and roll?

Probably not getting many answers because this is almost a moot point. As far as we know at this juncture, RDA is not coming back for S9 -- in a recurring role or otherwise.

Thank god someone else said it. Don't get me wrong i LOVE RDA but i think right now one of the things thats really hindering the show is that the writers are spending all of thier time trying to write around the actors scedules and there bullsh*t input(I.E.the all catrer eps., the all teal'c eps., the all talking to each other from different locations eps.) i mean can anybody remember the last full team action ep.?. To me if the just leave the writers be and show up to work or quit. The show would turn around quick. I mean look at all the other long running shows out thier what ends up killing them is trying to keep going with people who don't wan't to be there and writing around there absence hoping they'll show back up.(I.E. x-files sorry david ducuvney). Now all of that withstanding i don't think the character jack o'neil should just disapear have him (god forbid!!) retire get a life something that leaves some room for later guest staring apperances. Anyway thats my two cents please don't kill me im new to posting.

I feel the same way. Don't get me wrong, he totally deserves the time off to spend with his family and he owes us (the fans) nothing. If he doesn't want to be there and can't be there all the time, then the show suffers. It must be pretty hard to shoot everything and write everything they want, but still keep RDA in. I think it's time for some fans to understand that there's nothing wrong with him wanting to leave and spend time with his family. 8 years is a long time to spend with a television show and I think anyone who flames you for this thread is just being plain selfish.

Now, the character of Jack shouldn't just disappear and never be mentioned again, like *some* characters *cough*
            Spoiler:
            Janet
*cough* *cough* Let him retire or be Goa'uld-ed (c'mon, you know it would be interesting) or something else that would allow RDA to return for guest appearances if he wishes.

I don't want the character O`Neill to disappear totally. They could write him a promotion to be like the second hand of General Hammond (or just switch places with GH ).
It'll be interesting to see how Ben Browder's character will fill the boots of Jack O'Neill

Maybe people are numb to this issue by now. We've been hearing about RDA's: maybe he is or maybe he isn't retiring for two months. I guess everyone is to a point where they're saying...all right already, leave if that's what makes you happy. I agree with him committing to the show or leaving. Without him around to remind his fans what they're missing, the new characters will have a better chance to bond with the viewers.

RDA pretty much sleepwalks through his role these days. The character has run out of puff, anyway. Face it, Oneill's purpose these days is to tell some tired old joke that we've heard a million times before in the previous seven seasons.
I think an energized Browder is better than a disinterested RDA.

RDA admitted in an interview that he gets bored with a show after 4 or 5 years, and to be honest he hasn't seemed that interested in the role for the last 3 seasons. I think that he should just come out officially and say he's leaving, and kill the speculation once and for all.

Yeah. My husband's. In fact, they can transfer his whole *body* into my husband's.

Is that suposed to be an insult? I know for some who post here, English is literally their second language. You may want to change that...

But I think he has every right to participate in anyway he sees fit, and the producers are willing to accept. If he does one episode a year for the next 5 years, I could live with that. I'd never have any reservations about RDA's character hopping back into the show from time to time.... Especially considering his contributions to the shows current success .

The character is now a shadow of his former self. Infact a liability to the show. You can see it in RDA's performances this season that he doesn't care anymore and that is reflected in the character as well.
I'm afraid the character of Jack is now an embarrassment.
Having said that, he does get a run for his money in the Moebius eps. Shanks and Tapping give two of the worst performances you'll ever see as their alternate timeline characters.

I respect Richard's integrity to his family. I understand things must change as time goes on and accept that his wit won't be around anymore to entertain me.

But...I maintain my integrity to the show and will not allow a shift in characters to draw me away from it. I wish it was the same for others.
