Nice thinking with maybe 2 problems :

It's like saying that the US were deemed an independant country as soon as the British settlers set foot on America. You should rather use the "Administration type" term to describe how decision are made and emphasize that they are still dependant (heavily?) on Earth support.

- China has a colony named Volaron... Seriously?

1- I've nothing against the economic independence of the colony but I doubt they will ever have (or even want to have) political independence. At least not by 2025.

2- It's just that I expect the new settlers to adapt the name of the Colony :

Volaron may be the official name chosen by the UN but the local Chinese settlers will use a Chinese name. The original name for Volans in Chinese being Fei Yu you'll have something similar like Feiyuja and they will be the Feiyujangzi

Draces would become something like Drakengrad (uh? isn't that a video game already?) or rather Drakonovgorod.

Some Arabian colony on Pictor will become Ar-Rassam and the inhabitants will be called Arrassamwatouni (or something significantly shorter)

But well this is only important for people that want to write some specific stories about the colony. Because I'm sure the Aschen won't give a damn if they are attacking Volaron, Feiyuja or Scratch-my-hairy-a** Prime.

The colonies seem alright but I would add that possibly China's political leanings by that time would be less communist and more socialist. Thier colony would most likely include a good proportion of SE Asian nations. The US colony should inlcude the Pacific nations of Australia,New Zealand, Japan and perhaps Indonesia.

Sorry for disappearing for a bit; I'm at a conference which will extend all the way through next week, and I probably won't have time to post here. I like the colony stuff. I would, however, like to point out that we already have a disclosure story; see the backstory. Some of the stuff you talked about could have happened later or concurrently, however.

I like the colony stuff. I would, however, like to point out that we already have a disclosure story; see the backstory. Some of the stuff you talked about could have happened later or concurrently, however.
