So for all of you that havent seen the last episode of SG-1.. this post contains quite a few spoilers





Things the Asgard should have done before they killed themself

Things that are just stupid that they didn't do

1: Built Asgard Powercores on Atlantis..
They may not rival a ZPM.. but they are FAR more powerful then anything humans can build, and lets say 5 of them might be able to get Atlatis up to full power. also one or 2 in Antarctica and at SGC?..

2: Leave a few O'neill-Class and DanielJackson-Class ships intact
When they snuffed themself out. the Ori where still a major threat, and they only upgraded the Odyssey, the least they could have done was leave a few ships behind.. (Granted they may actually have done it.. its hard to say with SG-1 being canceled and all , but no mention of it in Ark of truth or Atlantis)

3: Cure major diseases on earth.
Kinda a no brainer .. but does not seem like they did it..


Things that would have been Cool

1: Design a new Fighter using Asgard tech that humans can replicate..
the F-302's are kinda getting.. outdated.. however! an Asgard designed gate fighter! how awesome would that be!

2: Asgard satellite defense network around earth and Atlantis
Would be awesome if they had left that to guarantee that their successors are safe untill they are able to fully utilize their tech


Also.. did we ever hear anything about Asgard trying to replicate a ZPM?

Good suggestions...the would have been cool. However, if the Asgard did all the things you suggested before they killed themselves, it would ruin a lot of storylines. Part of the series is never knowing if earth or Atlantis will be attacked. Good ideas, but...you don't want your good guys to be too strong...it would ruin the show.

hence the need as i have said a few times for a REAL enemy..
like the Ori..
The wraith however are not a real threat.. with Asgard weapons on the 304's the Hive ships have become a joke


Man I hope that new Race Dr Jackson makes contact with in season5 is a Powerful enemy..

one of the reasons that seems to keep cropping up with stories lines is that the good guys end up in these really desperate situations. then they get out of them and they are that much more heroic for it. Since the Asgard didn't do those things for Earth/Atlantis, once those things are in place, the good guys are now that much more heroic for figureing out how to get those goodies.

Who isn't to say that all of that stuff is within the Asgard Computer Core? Afterall, remember that the Computer Core contains the entire Asgard legacy. Everything they knew and have. Also, the Ori showed up. Maybe the Asgard were going to reveal some information to SG-1, however they ran out of time. So the information and all of the suggestions would be in the Asgard Computer Core. It would just take a LONG time to learn of everything in it because of all the advance technology, wisdom, knowledge, etc. it contains within its matrix.

Afterall as well, now that the Ori (only was Adria who is now in a eternal fight with Morgan LeFay/Ghanos Lal) are gone and with the followers now "seeing the truth", the Tau'ri will no longer be attacked because of the unique power signature that the Core gives off, allowing the Tau'ri to turn the Core on and be able to start studying its secrets.

Besides, although they would all be cool ideas, like David said, it would ruin new story ideas plus it would make the Tau'ri as powerful as the Asgard, which would make it hard for new story ideas of an enemy getting under the skin of them. It would cease Atlantis and other Stargate shows because of the technology the Tau'ri possess. So they are going to go through everything slowly to fully understand it which could take many years allowing for many new movies or episodes on Atlantis.

I think its better they didnt outright do these things. They did however give us all they know, so the information to do it ourselves is in the core.

I think its a good thing the Asgard didn't do all these things. Everything you said is in the computer core they left us. So we can discover them in our own time and possible make some interesting stories doing it.

It would be lame if they just said we are killing ourselves and oh by the way here are a bunch of kick butt ships and a ton of other stuff to make your life easy.

The Asgard didn't wan't to just give us all the technology, to avoid it being used for corruption. Maybe the same rule as with ascension applies here: if you deserve it, you should be able to get it on your own.

given some of their things to us like small weapons or little tech uses
