Impressive ratings from both shows. I do believe SG1's ratings mean that this episode was the second most watched episode ever on Scifi (After New Order and tied with Evo?). Not bad for a non premiere/finale.
Also a ratings boost over the previous episode! I had not expected this so early in the season.

Staying power of Sg1 I don't know, to some people, these ratings mean nothing, but i just like seeing them for some reason, even if i don't believe they are reliable sometimes

The higher the rating the more likely we are to get a season 9

So let´s hope both shows will get a good ratings for the rest of the season.

Have you noticed which series is NOT appearing on the top ten list for the SciFi Channel? "Andromeda" hasn't made an entry on the top ten list since May.

Maybe because people aren't too fond of Andromeda's repeats? Since the show did air on a different network than scifi, airing episodes before scifi got them, so maybe people are just waiting for the new season, but maybe people think the show is cancelled, i don't know, just throwing ideas around.

I can't quite remember, but didn't those episodes premiere the same time as the Olympics? If so they did pretty good, although above a 2 would be nice

Yes "Avatar" and "Childhoods End" were up against the opening ceremonies of the Olympics. I'm not a scifi executive but I would say those are good ratings considering the competition.

Scifi seemed to be pretty happy with the 1.8 average that SG-1 had for season 7. Both SG-1 and Atlantis are well above that this season.

                          Hehe, maybe

I guess because i take into consider the other scifi show ratings, so 1.7 is pretty high compared to the movies they air, Andromeda usually gets a 1.5+ or somewhere in the area, so i don't know, i'm sad for scifi, although this year its having its best year ever (looking at mediaweek.com).

Yes, my bet is that SciFi is probably VERY happy given the competition against the Opening Ceremonies. Don't sell the show's short or think disaster is looming because of that. Ratings always depend on what they are up against.

It is after all, why SciFi starts it's shows in the summer

The Olympics' opening ceremonies took place on that Friday.

I'm impressed on how many loyal Stargate fans tuned in to watch Stargate.

Were the opening cerimonies not shown live in America then?
