        Technical and Historical Notes:

Limping from New Caprica, the remnants of the Colonial Fleet in 2006 came across a world with a Tau'ri research center, some 6,000 lightyears from Earth. Quickly making contact, the Earth ship Columbia (a Daedalus-class starship recently commissioned) was dispatched, and eventually ferried the Rag Tag Fleet to Earth via hyperspace.

While overjoyed at finally reaching Earth, the Colonials were adamant about returning to New Caprica and rescuing their remaining 39,000 civilian population. However, the Colonials were clearly outnumbered and outgunned by the Cylons, and the Tau'ri were currently engaged with the Ori and Wraith. The Tau'ri were more than willing to set the Colonial Remnant up on a nearby, Earth-like planet (which they named "Persephone") with a Stargate, and a constant stream of logistical support. But rearming and refitting an entire combat fleet for use against the Cylons (a relatively tame enemy) was something the Tau'ri could simply not undertake at the moment.

Admiral William Adama finally proposed a deal: In exchange for a number of their vessels, and their space folding technology, the Tau'ri and Free Jaffa would help them refit the Galactica and the Pegasus. The deal was made within an hour of it's proposal. The Free Jaffa ferried a shipyard to the Sol system, and the Tau'ri provided the manpower and resources to begin the refits and upgrades.

Galactica was the first ship to undergo the refit. Much of her internal machinery was ripped out, her massive tylium reactors replaced with smaller, and far more powerful naquada generators. One of her space folding FTL drives was removed for the Tau'ri and Free Jaffa to study, and replaced with an Asgard hyperdrive. While the jump drives were excellent for short-range transits, the hyperdrive would grant the Colonials a far easier and faster (over long distances) mode of transportation. The two drives together make the Galactica an extremely mobile and valuable asset. The addition of intertial dampeners and anti-gravity wave generators made the massive ship much faster and more maneuverable in normal space, and allowed her to enter planetary atmospheres with ease, a considerable advantage over Cylon basestars.

Galactica's primary weapons were summarily removed, as well as all their cumbersome support systems. In their place were put rail guns and coil guns-All far smaller, less personnel intensive, and more powerful than Galactica's original armament. Two vertical missile launch systems were also installed, mainly filled with modified-Sparrow SAMs for use against enemy craft. And, most importantly, Galactica was given Asgard shielding technology, which would render her virtually immune to anything in the Cylon's arsenal. This, along with her new RADAR/DRADIS jamming technology and Asgard transporters, would make her the deadliest warship in the Colonial Fleet's history.

However, much of this new hardware and firepower required increased automation and computer systems-Things the Colonials, due to their experience with the Cylons, were understandably skeptical about. However, the Tau'ri were able to introduce enough safeguards into the new computer systems to make Admiral Adama happy. Among them were quadruple-redundant computer networks, fibreoptic wires that are immune to EMP damage, state of the art anti-hacking software, and manual computer cut-offs in every system. This increased automation allowed Galactica to run with half of her remaining crew effectively, and with United States Navy aircraft carrier personnel being transferred to help man the great ship, the Galactica was combat ready again in less than six months.

Her first order of business was to jump back to New Caprica, where she made quick work of the Cylon Occupation Forces. The Cylons were unable to hack the battlestar's system or pierce her shields, even with the full might of their thirty-plus basestars and thousands of Cylon Raiders. Galactica's Mk. VII Vipers had been upgraded with intertial dampeners and RADAR/DRADIS jamming technology from the Tau'ri F-302s, and had been given rail guns as their main weapons. In short order, the Cylons suffered a humiliating and extremely one-sided defeat. For weeks afterward, the moment a Cylon ship caught sight of the Galactica, she immediately fled.

After relocating the Rag Tag Fleet survivors to Persephone, Galactica was finally fully crewed with Colonial Fleet members once more. Even so, Galactica would continue to work closely with the Tau'ri, and together with the Pegasus would provide a huge boon to the Milky Way Galaxy's war against the invading Ori.

that is the best drawn MS Paint ships I have seen on these boards very detail..outstanding job JRPR...the ship is bordering on fanwank, but is still plausible. It looks like it is almost 800 meters long! I can see this ship being it earths fleet in 2020. The Ori threat shows us that huge slow moving ships are a bad idea, small and fast with heavy shielding are the answer..
Thanks for the complements and im guessing its the windows that make it look so big and yea i did screw them up a bit but yea 2020 sound bout right. its ment to be about 100% longer than the daedalus and roughly 100% as wider. i designed it to be basicly an upgrade of the daedalus and to be a kinda cross between carrier and battle ship. I tried to keep it away from fanwank, what is it that makes it that close? is it the fact that its huge or that its the backwards gou'ald weapons?

anyways nice work from Andrew Joshua Talon as always Sentry cruser looking very nice. Keep em commin

This the UGAV that I had attached to my Advanced Destroyer as Mobile Sentries(actually something very similar to this is being built)

                    UGAV-Unmanned Ground Assault Vehicle

                    Type: Mobile Defense Platform
                    Technology Base: Earth/Asgard
Nations: United States Navy, United States Air Force, Royal Navy/Air Force, Russian Space Service, Canadian Air Force, Free Jaffa Nation
                    Hull: Titanium/Steel
                    Dimensions:
                    ~Length: 4m
                    ~Width: 2m
                    ~Height: 5m
                    Displacement: 4 tons
Crew: 2 remote operated from Ship in Orbit, SGC or several Miles away
Powerplant: Experimental High Capacity Lithium Ion Power Cells- 72 hour battery life when in constant use/ rechargable to full power in 2 hours
                    Weapons: Variable
*~One Mk. II Gatling Gun / 3000 rounds
                    *~One .50 Caliber Machine Gun /2000 rounds
                    *~Two Modified AGM Maverick Missiles
                    *~One 10mm Railgun Pod/ 5000 rounds/Expensive!!!
                    ~Two 40 round-40mm Grenade Launchers
                    Defenses:
                    ~Reactive Armor
                    ~Plasma Resistance Ceramic Armor Plating
                    Other Technology:
~Micro Radar and IFF sensor pod
                    ~Anti-Prior Neural Disruptor

The UGAV is the next generation of Combat MALP. In the first generation Combat MALP the soldier would have to mount the vehicle from behind and laydown support fire. The UGAV is the first semi automonous mobile defense platform that doesn't require an onboard operator its IR/Motion sensor allows for day/night engagements and the revolutionary IFF(Indicate Friend or Foe) sensor pods cut collatoral damage by 75%. The option to use the UGAV remotely as a mobile sentry into Lucian Alliance and Ori strongholds saves the lives of many Jaffa Warriors and Tauri Soldiers.

With the Ori Crusader Threat, the UGAV is being mass produced and sent to Free Jaffa Planets as sentry guards around citys. The Ori footsoldiers
seems to use medievel battle tactics of charging the enemy, the UGAV shreds these incoming lines to shreds..The threat of Priors releasing plagues is also anther reason for the development of a remote sentry to prevent exposure...

Originally intended as the Tau'ri version of the Ancient Puddlejumper-type utility craft, the EC-332 Albatross (or "Flapper", as it is affectionately known) has become the premier support craft for most of Earth's space forces.

Built with technology and equipment from the F/A-22 and F-302 programs, the EC-332 can easily keep up with these strike fighters, and possesses the ability to fold her wings forward while in flight-Allowing the Albatross to fly through an active Stargate. Her weapons and cargo carriage capabilities are very impressive, able to keep a significant force re-supplied on the ground. And, her Sodan Cloaking technology makes her perfect for running resupply missions even when the local Stargate is occupied by enemy forces.

No ship in the Tau'ri Fleet is without at least two of these useful craft, possessing the manueverability of an AV-8B Harrier, the speed of an F-302, the versatility of a Puddlejumper, and the durability of a Tel'tac. The Free Jaffa Nation has recently bought a few examples for evaluation.

Again, again, I know. I'm sorry, I'm just not satisfied with the design of my first and favorite ship, the Abydos. Anyway, HOPEFULLY, this will be the last redesign, based on information I gleaned about the Daedalus-class starship.

                          Technical and Historical Notes:

After the launch of the BC-304 Daedalus, the United States military issued a requirement (top secret) for a smaller starship class to supplement the new battlecruisers that would begin coming off the assembly line. The vessel would have to be smaller, cheaper, and more maneuverable than the Daedalus, but be able to deploy near-equal firepower against threat ships and installations.

The United States Navy, already involved in constructing the BC-304 and teaching the Air Force how to run ships, immediately recalled Commander R. Doyle Gillespie back from retirement. He had been involved in designing the next-generation of United States attack submarine, and with his unique background in mathmatics and command, was perfect to run such a program.

With the threat of the Goa'uld largely eliminated, Commander Gillespie believed that now was a good time for the development and testing of new technologies in the new ship class (codenamed X-305), as there was no rush to get more ships into the air with what they had. Drawing up a design based on current Navy ships in development, the vessel would only use trinium in 60% of it's construction, cutting it's cost considerably. The project, now codenamed "Abydos", was approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee and began work in a secure drydock near the old submarine base in Charleston, South Carolina.

The design of the X-305 was based heavily upon the BC-304 and BC-303 classes that proceeded it, using the same general hull form as Prometheus. Taking the engines, shields, powerplant, and basic systems from the BC-304 program, the X-305's true innovations were in weaponry, versatility, and overall performance.

Firstly, her "wings" housed a much more powerful and intricate anti-gravity wave generator network. The idea was to use the layout of the much smaller Gou'ald Deathglider's intertial dampening system to provide greater acceleration and maneuverability in the X-305. Initial trial runs showed great promise, as did later training flights alongside Navy F-302s and a captured Al'Kesh. The anti-gravity wave generators granted the X-305 the ability to out-turn and outrun the Al'kesh, despite the destroyer's far greater size.

For weapons, the X-305 was given the first practical coil gun (or mass driver), built with help from the Asgard. Capable of firing naquada/potassium warheaded, depleted uranium shells at a million meters a second, the coil gun would be the weapon of choice against the X-305's intended prey-Al'kesh and other small threat force starships. Each shot would equal roughly a kiloton of explosive force in kinetic energy alone, and with the modest naquada enhancement, the coil gun could do considerable damage even against Ha'tak-class motherships.

Her secondary armament was a vertical missile launch system, a slightly smaller version of the system carried aboard the BC-304s. Instead of five reloads for each launcher, the X-305 only has three. However, this still gives her a very large weapons payload; Over 60 missiles, that can be as varied as the ship commander wishes. The X-305 was also given four bomb bays based upon those developed for the B-2 Stealth Bomber, which can increased her total weapons payload to over eighty missiles. In addition, JDAMs, cluster bombs, and other munitions can be carried, making the X-305 a very flexible weapons platform.

To save money, the X-305's hull was plated in reactive armor, instead of trinium. The armor explodes outward when struck by weapon's fire, disappating up to 60% of the energy of the hit. In addition, the X-305 utilized inert naquada armor in it's vital sections (such as the bridge and engineering). This naquada has been depleted of the majority of it's instability, thanks to a method of radiation treatment devised by Lt. Colonel Samantha Carter and Commander Gillespie. While not as resiliant as the inert naquada that makes up the Stargates, this armor is strong enough to absorb the equivalent of a fifty-megaton nuclear detonation at point-blank range. However, this new armor technology is difficult to produce in large amounts, and so will probably be largely excluded from the production version of the X-305.

Finally, the X-305 utilizes Sodan cloaking technology (traded for information on the Ancients) and Asgard shielding, sensors, hyperdrive and transporter technology. Though half the size of the Daedalus-class starships, the X-305 (now christened Abydos-class) is no less capable in all aspects aside from small craft capacity. And at half the cost, and over half the weight and size, the Abydos was immediately commissioned and launched under the command of now-Captain R. Doyle Gillespie.

The Abydos was launched and undergoing extensive shakedown trials and tests in Mars orbit at about the time the Prometheus was destroyed in orbit around Tegalus. Her hyperdrive had yet to be installed, and so she was not considered to be sent to rescue SG-1, who had been captured by the Lucian Alliance on P6G-452, along with the Oddessy, which had also been recently launched. She would later participate in anti-smuggling operations with the Free Jaffa Nation Spacefleet, a joint-maneuver designed to promote solidarity between the Tau'ri and the young galactic superpower. In this mission, Abydos was responsible for intercepting a huge shipment of kassa bound for Chulak. One week later, in a rather unorthodox strategy, she defeated a Prior of the Ori by landing on him on the planet Madrona. She was part of the Earth/Jaffa/Tok'ra/Lucian Alliance/Asgard task force at the second Ori supergate, where she sustained heavy damage in battle against the Ori. She was forced to break off when she'd expended all of her ordnance against the Ori battlecruisers, but was able to assist a number of Jaffa and Tok'ra vessels in their retreat.

Now designated SDD-305 (Space Destroyer), the Abydos-class starship is rapidly entering full-scale production, largely under the management of the US Navy (though the USAF, Russian Space Service, and Royal Air Force/Navy have all requested a few). The Abydos's sister ships, the Yggdrasill and the Delphi, will soon launch from the United States Naval Yards in Charleston, South Carolina, and both will be manned by the US Navy. A third sister ship, the Helios, is being rushed into service at Area 51 for the use of the Air Force, alongside the new BC-304 Daedalus-class starship Columbia. The Russian SDD-305 Potemkin is about half-way finished in a remote base in Sibera, while the Royal Air Force and Navy have begun work on the Dauntless and the Avenger in Base Green in Australia's Outback. The Japanese and French have also expressed interest in the design, and hope to begin construction on their own SDD-305s within the next year.

Nice touch with the story line too.

                                ^ Nice design..!

I have to ask though... does the soldier's hold come up into the cockpit? I mean is part of it built under the cockpit's window screens? So that they can also see what's ahead of the ship? Or is it completely closed off?
