I always wondered where did they got all their power, and got organized so fast...

The first time we are introduced to them, ( not counting the epi Vala stole oddy cuz by them we didnt know who they were ), vala says:

      Spoiler:

VALA: Unfortunately that ship is now in the hands of the Lucian alliance.

      LANDRY: The who?

VALA: It's a coalition of former smugglers and mercenaries who've banded together to take advantage of the power vacuum left by the demise of the
      Goa'uld.

How the heck did they got the ships ? Were there lots of human mercenaries ? How come we up till season 9 have seen only one ?
Up untill season 9, I really couldnt imagine smugglers when the goa'uld were around..
They seamed quite organized.. how would they do that in only 1 year ?

The Jaffa being as loose cannon as they are, wouldnt go on a full scale war against them ? I mean, if they have so much ships, is because they killed the jaffa that were inside the ships...

      edit:
just found the epi they kinda try to explain:

      Spoiler:
VALA: The Goa'uld used to have a ship-building facility here. It's now been taken over by the former human slaves. From what I know, they have ties
      with the Lucian alliance.

But as far as we know, human slaves didnt have the know how on how to make ships on their own...
And I really cant see the goa'ulds just leaving a ship-building facility behind.. with the slaves alive and all...
I mean, a place like that, is supposed to be heavily guarded, right ? Wouldnt it be more logic if instead of humans, a group of minor goa'ulds were to get their hands on the ships ?

I think what happened is that the Goa'uld had most of their resources taken over the Jaffa, such as shipyards and planetary construction sites. The Lucian Alliance seems to have been also able to occupy such places. People like Aris Boch and even Vala showed that even while the Goa'uld were in power they still had a use for human bounty hunters and perhaps even smugglers, plus not every world would have been primative so refugees from planets attacked by the Goa'uld could have had their own ships. Plus once the Replicators started taking over, plus the Jaffa going on a head hunting spree, some just had to leave or be killed.

That said, it wasn't until near the end of season 1 that the Goa'uld had gotten decent hyperspace technology so there would have been a large part of the galaxy that the Goa'uld probably didn't have good control over which wouldn't have helped if there was a rebellion like on Earth since distant locations could have taken extremely long periods of time to investiage if the gate was buried.

Plus, after Ra's, Sokars, Apophis' and Heru-urs death, the System Lords were way too busy with each other.
          Mia: Don't you hate that?
          Vincent: Hate what?
Mia: Uncomfortable silences. Why do we feel it's necessary to yak about bullsh*t in order to be comfortable?
          Vincent: I don't know. That's a good question.
Mia: That's when you know you've found somebody really special: you can just shut the f*** up for a minute and comfortably share silence.

The formation of the Lucian Alliance happened in between season 8 and 9, it will be explored more in Stargate Worlds.

They might have gotten to the replicator-controlled ships early after they were destroyed.

They were probably around during the Goa'uld just more of a secret or something.

But why didnt the Jaffa Free Nation go into a rampage against them ?
They were shown as loose cannons, cuz when they were looking for Baal, they "invaded earth territory"... And earth had oddy and those symbiont-killing virus... AND the sg1 plot shield...

I agree that when the big System Lords wre killed there was a lot of internal fighting between the Goa'uld probably allowed smugglers and mercenaries more room to move.

Also when Anubis was on the rise the Alliance of the System Lords who united against him were probably to busy with the war to guard every shipping lane which probably allowed the Lucian Alliance a lot of freedom.

But when they invaded Earth they were lokking for a ''false God'', so they probaby don't really care about smugglers and mercenaries who aren't giving them any trouble. And I don't think the Jaffa want a war when there trying to build there own society.

It could also be that the Lucian Alliance has just as many Ha'taks as the Jaffa!

There a collection of smugglers and mercenaries who banded together fill the power vacuum left by the Goa'uld when they fell from power.

But in order to have gotten those ha'tak they probably had to kill many jaffa....
And earth is respected among many as a powerful force... ( they have the drones for defense, and people dont know that they cant use it.... ). Even the system lords were afraid of going against earth...

And the jaffa are looking for war, that`s what they were raised to do. Or else their high council wouldnt be composed based on military assets and all...

Earth have the legendary sg1... The ones blessed with the plot shield... A great many of the jaffa respect them.. And even tough, they invaded earth, so why wouldnt they go against the lucian alliance if they killed jaffas ?

The other questions is where the Lucian alliance obtained their engineers. They engineered plasma based sniper rifles in a few years.

Doubtful, they could have got them from anywhere...
