Would the Alterreans or whoever(Merlin) put the treasure under the Tor be using our present day numeral system????

I guess they predate Roman numerals, souldn't they be in ancient or hieroglyphics or cunieform or something?????

Ah, the devil is in the details--Merlin knew an American AirForce Colonel would need to solve the problem, I guess.
The "Arabic" numerals as you call them were invented in India by the Hindu's around or before the time of time of King Arthur. So feasibly Merlin could have known of thier existence .. Also Merlin would've know that anyone advanced enough to reach this far would know something as basic as base system math.
