Those were the times when ship-related angst was sparse. *sigh* So many years ago.
I watched that episode tonight. It was on Scifi. I did find it odd that he called her Sam in front of General Hammond and her father. I would think that that would be a name he would call her in a more private setting, not at a place full of military personnel. However, it was before the full blown love and attraction between them, so maybe he felt more comfortable doing it then.

I ship Sam/Jack because "always" is a very long time and he'll "always" be there for her. Sam/Jack-John/Teyla-Booth/Brennan

After they started to be aware of their mutual attraction to each other, he stopped calling her Sam and started calling her Carter or Major...or Colonel...
