I thought that was a pretty accurate and descriptive title for that episode. The supergate was the Ori's first beachhead....Of course, it didn't work out for them, but I still thought it was fitting.

Thanks for explaining Beachhead Callista , now I see that it IS a fairly good title, now.. could somebody explain the meaning of Ex Deus Machina ??
As you can guess, if I don't get the meaning of the title, I vote it out

            Well, I'm sure it's a play on:
Deus ex machina is a Latin phrase that is used to describe an unexpected, artificial, or improbable character, device, or event introduced suddenly in a work of fiction or drama to resolve a situation or untangle a plot (e.g., having the protagonist wake up and realize it was all a dream or an angel suddenly appear to solve all the plot problems of a story that won't resolve itself by the characters). The phrase has been extended to refer to any resolution to a story which does not pay due regard to the story's internal logic and is so unlikely that it challenges suspension of disbelief, allowing the author to conclude the story with an unlikely, though more palatable, ending. In modern terms the deus ex machina has also come to describe a person or thing that suddenly arrives and solves a seemingly insoluble difficulty. While in storytelling this might seem unfulfilling, in real life this type of figure might be welcome and heroic, due to the low probability of such an event occurring.

The notion of deus ex machina can also be applied to a revelation within a story experienced by a character which involves the individual realizing that the complicated, sometimes perilous or mundane and perhaps seemingly unrelated sequence of events leading up to this point in the story are joined together by some profound concept. Thus the unexpected and timely intervention is aimed at the meaning of the story rather than a physical event in the plot.
This literally means "god from machine" because in old plays, they would lower a "god" onto the stage using a mechanical device. I've never taken Latin, but I would guess switching the words around makes it mean something about an "ex-god" being part of a machine or some kind of workings.
However, I can barely remember that episode, so I'm not sure what the title has to do with the episode. Perhaps someone else can carry on the explanation?

That's from Wikipedia, right ?? I read that before, but the switching place of 'ex' might change the meaning entirely. What I want to know is the 'new meaning'.
It's the episode where they have Ba'al clones... so maybe it means : The (copying)machine of ex-God (since Ba'al is on earth and not a Goa'uld God anymore) but still it's only true for half of the story. the Jaffa-nation/torture part is not represented, so IMO, it's still a bad title

I thought Beachhead was a perfect title for that ep. even though I didn't much care for the ep. itself.
                          IMO always implied.

I associate Tin Man more with Star Trek: The Next Generation's episode of the same name.
