Yay for Secrets! I'm happy also for COTG Part 1, even though I wasn't yet voting for it. :-) Hooray also for Maternal Instinct. Somehow I missed a round, but that was on my list, too.

Just for fun, I thought I'd post reasons like we used to do in the Best Episode Tournament:

Fire & Water- This is the first episode that really caught my attention. It wasn't even Wet!Daniel because I mostly noticed that, "Hey, he looks different without his glasses. He doesn't even look like Daniel." It was mostly Jack's reaction to Daniel's supposed demise and, to a lesser extent, Sam's. Jack smashing Hammond's car window with a hockey stick and then making a joke about it later was priceless. That's when I knew there might be more to this show than I thought--that maybe it was something really special. (While I loved COTG now, I actually slept through much of it the first time around. I was not thrilled to be watching a "boring sci-fi" show." *g*)

The Gamekeeper - I loved Daniel's angst in this story and loved the way that Sam reacted to that--trying to find a scientific explanation, but also really feeling for him.

Need - This was my most anticipated episode when I first heard about it. I was not disappointed. I loved all the character interaction in this between all of the characters. I thought we learned the most about Daniel in this episode than almost any other, but we also learned a lot about Jack. The storeroom hug and Daniel crying is probably my favorite scene on the show in all 9 season so far.

Spirits - I love the way that it's Jack who is concerned with the rights of the indigenous people. He was so pissed. I also loved Sam's first command (though I still contend that her real first command was in Thor's Hammer) and the way she handled everything--and the way Daniel and Teal'c responded to her. I also loved Daniel looking to Jack to make everything okay, and both Jack's and Daniel's interactions with the aliens. They were both on the same side there and I think they always had similar sensibilities--just different approaches. I also loved the "Are you you?" "Yeah, you?" "What?" *g*

Holiday - MS did Machello so well that it was only when I came online that I realized that he played Machello (the old Machello). I also thought that MS as Machello inside Daniel's body did it so well because he looked nothing like Daniel even though he was wearing Daniel's clothes and glasses. I kept wondering why Hammond and Janet couldn't tell. Why nobody noticed that something was so wrong with Daniel (even though I think it makes sense because who would have suspected something like that?).

One False Step - What would happen if we introduced harmful elements into another world? This episode took a stab at that question. It may not have been the best approach, but what was good about it was all the characters' reactions to it. Everyone had major angst and guilt about what was happening to the aliens and everyone wanted to try to figure out how to save them. This is just one of the best episodes ever.

Legacy - I loved the way MS played Daniel's reaction to going crazy. When he saw things that he knew couldn't be there, he looked to see how others were reacting. When they didn't react, he was afraid and said nothing. The look on his face said it all, if only to the audience. I loved the scene where Jack comes into the infirmary to see Daniel and I thought MS was briliant in all the scenes in the hospital--especially as he was coming out of his Machello and drug-induced stupor.

The First Ones - I know this isn't the greatest team episode, but I loved seeing Daniel both in and out of his element at the same time. He was learning a new culture/species, but at the same time, literally tied up and in fear for his life. I love that he didn't kill Chaka. The scene with the symbiote head was delightful.

Beast of Burden - I still consider this to be one of the best episodes of the entire series--definitely top five. I loved the ethical and moral conflicts about "how far do we go?" I loved seeing Jack and Daniel both stuck in the middle and trying to find a way out of an impossible situation. It was also fun to see them each realize the other's position and come to a compromise. Daniel didn't instigate a rebellion, but he tried to convince Chaka to keep Chaka's rebellion peaceful.

Lockdown - "Who shot me?" I thought this episode, especially when paired with Zero Hour, was a powerful episode that showed how difficult it was for Jack to be the general. Zero Hour was marred just a tad by that silly B story with the mole, but Lockdown was great fun, dramatic, and had some wonderful character moments.
