SG1 Best Episode Tournament - Seasons 1 through 7 overall CTD.
Forever in a Day
The Torment of Tantalus
Redemption, Part 1
Secrets
The Changeling
The Curse
Missed voting last round and I had Singularity on my list, so I needed to add a new ep which ended up being The Curse which always feels a little flat to me when I watch it.
While I did enjoy all the "UR-GO go!" comments, I'm with Solar Wind on this one "he just wants to live, and eat pie." and what's wrong with pie I ask you?
Just a question for you folks (warmbeachbrat, meredevachon, etc) regarding Foothold, what don't you like about this ep? This is one of my all time favorites and I always find it interstering to hear why other folks don't like an ep that I do.
1. Redemption, Part 2
2. Shades of Gray <<<---great episode, but strategic vote
3. Point of View
4. Urgo
5. Redemption, Part 1
6. Descent
And aizjanika, I don't know what you're talking about, Descent is so good.
hehe! We have very different tastes in episdodes, solar_wind. You have several of my favorites on your list.
*sigh* I really liked Singularity.
I really liked Singularity, too. Mine was a strategic vote to try to save beloved episodes for a few more rounds. I actually thought Singularity was a good episode--possibly even great--it's just not beloved by me. It's getting cutthroat out there now.
Reasons:
Redemption, Part 2 - boring technical stuff, boring Sam, smug Jonas, hate for scene that was supposed to mimic scene from The Enemy Within Point of View - boring episode, ick AU ship, whiney AU Sam, hate for the squicky scene of Jack kissing AU Sam Redemption, Part 1 - boring technical stuff, boring Sam, smug ick Jonas Urgo - sorry...strategic vote in a lame attempt to save Legacy, which is one of my favorite episodes. Need is already gone. :-( Shades of Gray - strategic vote to try to save Legacy (I both love and hate this episode. I didn't like that Makepeace was set up as the bad guy, especially. Poor Makepeace. I liked him.) Descent - I didn't like how they tried to force the Jonas issue and then set up him as the hero at the end. It was too contrived for me. I had mostly liked Jonas before seeing these first episodes of season 6, but especially this one.
The Changeling
Menace
Shades of Grey
Redemption, Pt. 1
Jolinar's Memories
The Devil You Know
I'm kind of sorry to see "Legacy" go; I kind of liked it. But I'd rather "Legacy" got chopped than "Urgo" or "Forever in a Day".
Hmm. I've mentioned previously why I'm voting for particualr episodes, but I don't think I've said anything about the ones I'm trying to save.
"Forever in a Day" has inspired more fanfics from me so far than any other ep from either series. Even Atlantis's "Conversion" only got one out of me. But FiaD spawned an idea that grew into a series of a dozen stories, plus a few stand-alones. And it's all due to MS's acting. The emotion in that ep was really powerful. The only two eps to ever make me cry are "Meridian" and "Forever in a Day". I don't know, I guess FiaD just touched me in a way... It was very well written, too. I don't know about what you guys think, but it seems to me that it was intended to be confusing. We, the viewers, were supposed to feel what Daniel felt – he didn't have a clue, either! So if you were confused by the ep until the end, that's just another reason not to vote for it: it means the writing succeeded in getting you at least a little bit into Daniel's mind! FWIW, I think it's some of the best writing in the entire series.
"Urgo" is, in my opinion, one of those rare gems of episodes that are hilarious without being stupid. I also liked Urgo's childlike wonder: "I want to live. I want to experience the universe, and I want to eat pie!" That line makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time. In that respect, he kind of reminds me of Data: just as human as the rest of the characters, if not more. I look at characters very seriously, and Urgo gave me an entirely new perspective on the world. I mean, come on, when was the last time you took the time to really enjoy a meal, or stopped to admire the beauty of a tree? Have you ever realized that the wonders we take for granted are just that – wonders? You might be thinking, "Oh, get a grip, CeeKay, it's just a TV show." But does that make it any less valid as a story? There are few stories that have touched me the way "Urgo" did.

Urgo shall never be defeated! Go Urgo! Best Episode Ever.

Urgo
What is the DEAL?! Legacy before Urgo? I actually liked Legacy (a LOT more than Holiday). I love the scene at the asylum where Daniel is trying to talk the Dr into believing he's better. Michael Shanks did such a good job with those lines. And the plot, or idea of the gou'ld-killing organisms was very interesting. I didn't really like the whole Janet crazy-on-the-sickroom-floor thing, but otherwise I thought the episode was fine.
Snappy: I think the biggest problem I had with Foothold was the appearance of the Aliens. They seemed more buffoonish than scary to me. I just couldn't get past it and take the threat seriously. I did like the plot point about the devices that changed their appearance (and it was nicely used in a future episode), but the rest of it was just overwhelmed by the way the aliens looked. Sorry.
CeeKay: I really do take time to look at the beauty around me. Being homesick has given me a new appreciation for my surroundings and also made me pay more attention to things. I can see where you get that from Urgo--I just don't have the same feelings toward that particular episode (maybe it's Dom Deluise, maybe the dialog--I'm not sure).
I am so blessed! Cherriey made this cool sig; scarimor made this great Dr. Lee smilie and Spudster made another neat one Dr. Lee RULES!
