((And now for the season finale of Stargate SG-1!))
12x20 "Shatterpoint" (Part 1 of 3)
Synopsis: When Tok'ra intelligence reveals that Garrin is gathering his fleet for an all-out assault on Alliance space, Earth sends everything it has in a preemptive first strike.
Spoiler:
Riding an elevator down to sublevel 27, Carter and Daniel are discussing Sam's recent trip to Washington. Apparently, she paid a visit to General O'Neill, who claims to be considering retirement next year... in order to finally make good on his long-time desire to "beat the Air Force rules." Jackson himself as nothing but praise for Carter, reminding her that she's had to wait too long for something good in her life.
As they exit the elevator and head down the hall to the briefing room, they carry on their conversation. Daniel is about to ask something else when the two of them enter the room and freeze; a woman in a business suit is standing next to the window overlooking the stargate, gazing down into the gate room. As the two SG-1 members enter, she realizes someone is there and turns, revealing a woman in her mid-30s with dark brown hair. She introduces herself as Danielle Talbot, a diplomat on the payroll of the United Nations.
In order to foster more public support for the Stargate Program, a civilian is being placed in charge (much in the way Elizabeth Weir once was), effective immediately. General Landry left over the weekend while the team was taking some time off, according to Talbot. She just finished moving all her things into her new office this morning, hoping to get done before work really started on-base so she could speak with the personnel in-person. But there isn't much time for introductions, as there is suddenly an offworld activation, prompting Talbot to excuse herself to the control room. Not seeing much else to do, Carter and Jackson tag along.
The incoming wormhole turns out to be from the Tok'ra, who are passing along some crucial information; a massive group of ships has been detected out on the edge of the galaxy in a star system known to be under Garrin's control. The other Alliance races are preparing a strike force to take him out entirely at once, and the ISGC is being asked to join in. This is it.
A few hours later, SGs 1, 2, 6, 7, and 13 are in a larger briefing room in the ISGC, with Danielle Talbot standing at the front of the room with Samantha Carter. A powerpoint presentation is in progress, detailing what Earth has learned; Garrin has constructed a base on P9X-335, a planet that is technically outside the Milky Way by .71 lightyears. From what the Tok'ra and Nox have gathered, his entire fleet and army is there, preparing for a massive invasion of the Jaffa Nation and the Hebridanian colony worlds. He needs to be stopped here and now, and they're working on a cross-species intervention right now. The Nox, Jaffa, Tok'ra, and Serrakin will all donate a handful of ships which, along with the Aurora and Valiant (the Thor is on guard duty for Earth) will attack Garrin's base and destroy it.
Carter plans on using a Mark IX nuke to completely obliterate the enemy stronghold from orbit, then have the Alliance fleet surround and blast Garrin's ships into dust. But the leader of SG-7 has a point to bring up... what about Garrin himself? Is he to be brought in to answer for his crimes? Before Carter can answer, Talbot speaks up, reminding everyone that while they want him to be tried for what he's done, stopping him by any means necessary is the priority here. She's willing to risk him getting killed in the crossfire if need be, which surprises SG-1; the other civilian leaders insofar in the Program, and most military ones, have emphasized bringing justice to enemies before all else.
While the team prepares for battle, things are also getting started on the edge of the galaxy. Above a beautiful, forested planet, a hyperspace window suddenly opens. A moment later, a Furling warship and a sextet of ha'tak exit hyperspace, cruising to face a massive armada of both Goa'uld-designed and alien vessels. This is Garrin's fleet, of which the Furling ship is apparently his personal cruiser. On the bridge, he gazes out on what he has assembled, the finest fleet in the galaxy, and turns to his helmsmen. He asks them to begin "it," then heads to the ring room to transport down to the planet.
Meanwhile, the Aurora and Valiant are entering hyperspace for P9X-335. The Alliance fleets are leaving in staggered time intervals so that they all, with their varying hyperdrive speeds, arrive within (hopefully) seconds of one another. In the mess hall, Mitchell has called together his teammates (Teal'c is leading the Jaffa fleet and is therfore absent) to talk about the upcoming battle. This could determine the future of the galaxy, and also their lives. He doesn't want this to be a repeat of the Ori's first attack, in which none of them could help one another, and so he has a plan. Each one of them will wear a secondary locator beacon with a unique signal that Sam will be tracking on the Aurora. If one of them is in trouble, she'll beam them back to the ship. The others agree and the matter is settled.
Finally, the moment comes; the two Earth ships drop out of hyperspace perfectly in synch with the other Alliance vessels, all weaponry firing. On the Aurora's bridge, Daniel and Vala watch as a rainbow of colored plasma blasts are poured onto Garrin's startled fleet, which immediately turns and opens fire itself. But thanks to whatever advancements he has on his ships, they're able to hold up surprisingly well, and neither side appears to be gaining much headway.
Knowing they have to keep on track, Carter orders Col. Sanders (the commander of the ship) to beam the Mark IX into Garrin's base the second they get a lock. After a second, they get the lock and beam away... but nothing happens. Somehow, he's jamming their orbit-to-surface signals. However, there does appear to be a ring platform down there. Unfortunately though, the Mark IX they've brought had some adjustments made to its casing, and won't fit. Mitchell decides to take the SG teams they have with them and ring into the complex themselves so they can manually disable the jamming signal. Carter agrees with that plan, and they rush to the ring room.
SGs 1, 2, 6, 7, and 13 assemble and are ringed down one at a time (while the orbital battle continues to rage without much success), easily taking out the few guards they encounter. SG-1 (minus Sam, who is helping out on the Aurora) joins with SG-13, and they proceed toward the area where Carter has pinpointed the jamming signal. A few guards get in their way, but on the whole it's a rather easy shot to the control room.
Vala shoots one last guard and the two SG teams head into the control room, where the SG-13 technician gets to work trying to hack into the computer systems. Mitchell is commenting to Daniel that this is all a bit too easy when a few energy blasts fly in from the hallway, killing two members of SG-13. The surviving Earth soldiers take defensive positions and fire back down at the newly-arrived enemies, hearing over the radio that the other three SG teams that came with them have been surrounded. Things are not going according to plan, it seems.
Back on Earth, Dr. Talbot is anxiously pacing around the briefing room, glancing at the stargate as if waiting for an incoming wormhole to tell her how things are going. There's a knock at the door behind her, and she turns to see Walter standing there. He says that a subspace transmission from the Tok'ra has arrived and is being decrypted right then. Talbot thanks him for the heads-up and asks to be alterted when decryption is completed... then returns to her pacing.
Meanwhile, the battle in space is starting to see some development. A trio of Nox ships have punched through the shields of a group of Garrin's ha'tak and are proceeding to rip them to shreds. But the news isn't all good; two Free Jaffa motherships have been destroyed, along with five al'kesh. From chatter on the Aurora's bridge, it seems that the Hebridanians are doing rather well, though. But Carter is still bent over her station, watching, helpless, as more enemy troops begin to approach her teammates' position. She starts to warn Mitchell via radio, but is stopped when static overwhelms the transmission. They're communications have been jammed, as well.
Down in the enemy stronghold, things look grim. The other two soldiers in SG-13 are dead, and the technician can't get to the controls to override the jamming frequency. Mitchell pulls out a trio of grenades, shouts for Jackson and Vala to get out of the doorway, then hurls them down towards the enemy. A moment later, an explosion can be heard and the energy blasts into the room cease. The technician runs up and closes and seals the door, then rushes to the control console and works on disabling the jamming codes. But after a second he realizes that the signal isn't only being broadcast from here; he can only turn it off for good from the communications station one floor below. With all contact with SGs 2, 6, and 7 lost, SG-1 and the techie leave the area and make their way towards a staircase they presume leads downstairs.
However, they turn a corner and see something very interesting; Garrin and a group of guards leaving a room in this new corridor. Mitchell decides that they can take him out here and now, and tells Vala and the technician to rush down to the other end of the hallway and wait for his signal. Meanwhile, he and Daniel take up positions at this end, waiting... when Vala and the tech radio that they're set, Mitchell and Jackson jump out and fire on Garrin's guards, killing half of them. The rest are quickly killed by the other SGC personnel, leaving only Garrin.
