There are quite a lot of great authors out there, but one who hasn't been mentioned yet is Neuropsych. Her Campers!-Series is really great!

I'd like to check out some of your recommendations, but where do I find them? I know there are more archives out there than ff.net, but so far I only know that and Heliopolis...

I find that www.nottasha.com has some good fanfic for Stargate.....but the stories are heaps long.
