I am aware of Janus' time-jumper. But I don't want to step on any toes.
You can probably use your own - while the solar flare + wormhole = temporal displacement method is the most used, there are other methods shown, like the Time Jumper and the not-quite-functional time loop machine from Window of Opportunity, which would seem to suggest that there are methods other than the flare/wormhole one.
And now it's time for one last bow, like all your other selves. Eleven's hour is over now... the clock is striking Twelve's.

What are the rules for US military personnel carrying concealed weapons on assignment, outwith US territory, while in civillian clothing?

That depends of the particulars of the Visiting Forces Agreement (or whatever treaty governing US military personnel based there) the US has with each country.

I do not find it likely that the host nations would allow US military personnel out of uniform to carry concealed weapons unless they were on official assignment. Such assignments would at the very least require informing the liaison officer of the host country and coordinating with local personnel.

It would also depend on the nature of the assignment. For example, during the first Gulf War, Gen. Schwarzkopf went around with a security detail made up of SOCOM personnel who did not wear their uniforms.

                That's about all I know.

Question for the (very) medically inclined: how long might it take someone to recover fully from an intracranial extradural haematoma?

If context is needed or a different condition is more suitable, the character in question was thrown against a wall by a very powerful alien and got a skull fracture (and other injuries) for her troubles, resulting in a short coma and briefly regaining consciousness. It would help if she was out of commission for quite some time but can nevertheless make a full recovery and return to active offworld duty in the Stargate program.

I know a couple of medics. I'll ask them and get back to you.

That really depends on the age (the younger the better in general), the affected brain areas, how quickly medical treatment was received, if there were complications during the surgery, what the GCS was (for the coma), etc etc. From the top of my head I'd say a full recovery is possible but unlikely in six months and would be closer to a year, maybe even longer. I'm not sure what the criteria would have to be to resume active offworld duty since complications like seizures could arise even two years later. So really, it depends on the circumstances.

                          Hi all,
What are your thoughts on using film quotes in fanfic?

I have a scene in mind where an OC says something similar to a quote from a film.
And has a response which contains themes from the same film.

Depends on the fandom and the character, but in SG-1 there are plenty of references (mostly O'Neill) and even quotes (especially Mitchell IIRC) to/from movies. Of course it also depends on the film, whether or not the character would actually watch/quote it.

Personally I'm not a fan of using (too many) film quotes but as long as it's in character...

or you 'hang a lantern on it'....use the film quote then have another character call them on it.

                              'Yippi ki a mother.....'
'Colonel," Sam interrupted. "There are children present."
Daniel sighed, "Never should have let him rent that."

Or something like that. Admit you're using the movie quote.

Or like they did in Fail Safe.....where the asteroid is heading to earth and Jack goes 'It hits Paris.'...Hanging a lantern in the fact that yeah, the plot is a rip of the movie.

I have to admit to not having heard the term 'hang a lantern on it'...

The quote I have in mind is a famous one. And the people who the OC says it to will call him on it.

Does anyone else have any thoughts?
