I'd almost agree, except (down here, anyway) the rules get rather arbitrary and the fees (and subsequent fines if you mess up) are exorbitant enough to make you think "entertainment tax".

Yup. This. I don't explain myself well before that first cuppa, and I've got fuzzy head from a cold this morning. Don't get me know, I support 99% of those licenses, and all of the limits, but sometimes they strike me as silly (fishing license for 12 year-olds, really?)

Amara--I don't know how much the fees are, but I know some folks who hunt for entertainment, others who do so to supplement the food on the table.

That's true. Most of the hunters I know personally hunt for sport (though they do eat the killings). I know a couple of people that only eat the meat they kill on their own. I only know one guy who hunts for the sport of it alone but won't eat the meat.

Still most all of them complain that the fees are awful.

The only thing I have is a fishing license and I know many of those rules are arbitrary. I think they come from a good place but they've just gotten a little crazy. Plus, we're still protecting Grouper and those things are like mudfish these days!

Oh the story isn't a X-over. I was just saying that one of the actors in Teen Wolf was also in Stargate SG-1.

You'd need to know character names, and how they relate to each other. At least that's what I think.

I have seen a few episodes from season 1 (mainly to see what it was about and decided not for me) of Teen Wolf and JR Bourne plays the father of the lead female. Plus the mother of the lead female was played by Jill Wagner who guest starred on Stargate Atlantis.

In some ways, i'm sure the states are charging just to make money. It's an easy pass in the legislature, to pass a fee that only affects some....such as doubling or tripling speeding fines.....they think 'sure, why not? won't affect me anyway', then watch them scream when they have to pay it.

In other ways, as they say on variuos shows I watch, if they don't have limits animals will be hunted/fished to extinction. That''s why the bering sea crab fishermen have a quota and can only catch males, not females, or why there's limits on which moose you can shooot (usually adult males are the most expendable) or govern what you do with it, for example bear gallbladder is highly sought in asia for their herbal medicine, so they have to strictly regulate it or people will wantonly kill bears just for the gall bladder, just like they catch sharks just to cut off the fins and let the sharks drown, or kill rhinos just to take their horns.

A lot of fish and game laws aren't there to stop the average hunter, but to curtail the greedy from destroying it for everyone.
