Hi. I posted this question elsewhere but was directed here. (Sorry. Pretty new to the boards and didn't realize this was the go to place.)
I have an idea for a new type of ship for the Stargate universe (not the new show )
It's smaller that the standard ships like Daedalus. The whole idea spawned from the addresses the SGC has in their dialing system that they could never get a lock on for one reason or another whether it be the people burying their gate or natural disaster...you get the idea.
I'd imagine that there would be a desire by some to look into these planets. After all, there could be a possibility that since burying their gate, the culture became technologically advanced and be of benefit to Earth.
I also don't see the SGC approving the large Daedalus class ships being sent on long excursions for these research missions.
So they made a smaller ship class model, housing one or two field teams and some generalized specialists in language and other scientific fields along with the small ship crew.
Now...the point. I'm more of an Aiden Ford than a John Sheppard in the cool names department. I would have never thought up puddle jumpers on my own.
So. Any other crazy cool people out there have an idea what a cool name would be for this vessel? I'm looking for either names for the ships in general or a specific name for one of this ship class.
Thanks in advance!
Oh! And some of the ideas already given that I liked - calling them scout class ships in general.
As for individual names of the ships, Jper suggested continuing the Greek mythology tradition and suggested Icarus (one of Daedalus's sons)
So I have two ideas spawning from that.
Name them all after nympths so they can be like the ladies of space. Some cool names I've come across are Kastalia, Thetis, and Aisa.
Or go along with Jper's idea and tweak it a bit. Have the commander of each scout class ship's direct C.O. be a commander of one of the larger ships. The scout ship's name could be directly related to the "mother ship" if you will. Like Icarus and Daedalus or Calypso for the Odyssey.
What do you think?
(And sorry I'm so long-winded!)
