BruTak, why is it that my first thought upon learning that your SG team has a dog was "What's that boy? Teal'c's fallen through the wormhole?" and my second was "Awesome!".

Long before you and I were born, others beat these benches with their empty cups,
To the night and its stars, to the here and now with who we are.
Another sunrise with my sad captains, with who I choose to lose my mind,
And if it's all we only pass this way but once, what a perfect waste of time.

Does anyone happen to have some good links to info about non-fatal gunshot wounds? I need it for a fic where someone gets shot off-world and left behind, so no medical treatment other than an extensive medkit they have with them and possibly some helpful native aliens. At the moment I'm thinking shoulder but I need to know how credible that is and what kind of treatment/recovery they would have.Unmade Plans (WIP: 11/20):
Sam's life takes a turn in an unexpected direction when she's faced with an unplanned pregnancy. The decision to keep the baby and raise it on her own will alter her life forever. Relationships are put to the test, especially the one between her and Jack. She doesn't know what to expect from him and he surprises her at every turn.

Also, is the bullet wound a through and through? Meaning the bullet went straight through and did not lodge somewhere inside. If the wound is somewhere in the torso, the guy will need help applying a bandage to the back.
Early in the invasion of Iraq, one item included in medkits as an unofficial field expedient addition was women's sanitary maxipads. Their intended function is to absorb blood, placed directly on the wound before binding the wound they help prevent blood from soaking through regular bandages thus extending the time between changes until the wounded arrived at an aid station or field hospital.
The maxipads have been officially replaced by quick clotting agents sprinkled on the wounds before applying a bandage.
If getting help of native aliens, they would probably make some sort of poultice from the local medicinal plants. No Sam w/o a Jack and no Jack w/o a Sam.
It's like and immutable law of the multiverse.

I figured tampons could do the trick? In my research I came across a (former) military guy who said they just stuck tampons in a bullet hole (if it was nice and round) to stop the bleeding and for the rest Sam has a medkit, which also has gauze, bandages, stitches, antibiotics and even IV fluids and a surgical kit with instruments apparently (I looked up the contents of military medkits).
Considering everything she has at her disposal I'm not certain yet whether the natives will have to help her or not, it might be that she has the equipment but needs an extra pair of hands or just some shelter...Unmade Plans (WIP: 11/20):

The shoulder blade however could still be a problem in that case and I don't want any loose bone fragments to cause more (internal) injuries. With Sam (not a guy) being stuck off-world there's no way she could see an orthopedic surgeon and I doubt the primitive natives have an equivalent, so I'm still trying to find a way around that shoulder blade.

I still have to look into the specifics because I've just found out that stuff like quickclot and Isreali bandages weren't in production yet at the time of the fic (first season, 1997), so I'll have to see what Sam would have at her disposal at that time and how she can use it.
Originally posted by Amara D'Angeli View PostI agree with Seaboe. But if you do go the tampon route, keep in mind that will limit the possibilities for the caliber of the gun used to shoot your victim. Some of the smaller (yet common) shot wouldn't even leave a hole big enough to plug with a tampon. You'd do more harm than good by trying to shove one in there.Unmade Plans (WIP: 11/20):

I know a number of first responders who kept sanitary napkins in their first aid kits as a matter of course. Same effect as a tampon in terms of stopping bleeding, no foreign matter in the wound.

Hi, I'm writing a sequence set in the early 70's in North America somewhere - it's for a Sanctuary piece and it's never specified where Old City is.
I have a couple of questions about the health care systems in the US and Canada, I'm from the UK and really have very little idea how either works, except from what I've seen on TV.
Brief background - My characters are a couple who don't stay in the same place for very long, and don't want to be traced - as such I would say they don't have a permanent address for health insurance. The woman is in labour. I've roughly planned for a third character to see them in a corridor and follow them to maternity - this character must see them before the birth as they realize all is not as it seems.
Can the woman in labour turn up at a hospital and get help?
Would she be transferred to maternity or stay in the ER?
Would she be turned away?
If she is turned away from a hospital, is there somewhere else she could go for help?
Any info greatly appreciated.Don't get it right, get it written - Unknown, they haven't decided who said it firstIf you want something in life, you have to work for it
Turn off lights not in use, buy local produce where possible, recycle all you can. Help save YOUR planet.

First question about a women in labor turning up at the hospital and get help? Yes she'd get help.
Second question, I don't know, but it may depend on how far along she is.
Third question, the answer is highly unlikely that she would be turned away. I actually can't think of a good reason for her to be turned away!
With your fourth question, I'm sure that in the highly unlikely instance that she's turned away, there are people that can be gone to for help.sigpichttps://www.fanfiction.net/s/7450657...-World-Goes-On Sparky story SGA https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10177037/1/Bad-Moon-Rising Teen Wolf fanfic story https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10573271/1/Skyfall Thor fanfic story
