Too bad that the conventions threads have become so quiet. Would love to hear some stories since I couldn't go.

I will be doing a report (well, one that can be done within PG guidelines) when I can...and I promise I'll put some on here hon!...the non-pg stuff will be limited to my DW and LJ accounts which are locked for friends only though...

I will say that this Con was extremely relaxed and apart from a couple of "irritating fans" (you know the ones that always seem to think they are entitled to whatever they want from the stars and/or take precedence over ALL other fans because, like you know, "they're special!" ) it was extremely easy for the guests to walk around....obviously Amanda had her security who escorted her from her Suite to the autos, photo ops and talks - and I'm guessing pretty much that Michael will have the same - he will need it if a few people I've seen before who are fans go......but the rest of the guys like Peter, Garry and Tom sat in the bars with people, shared smoke breaks outside with them and even bought Con goers drinks - thanks for the Diet Coke Pete btw!!

All in all, a very relaxed, well run Con.....and the hotel was very nice, if a tad expensive in the restaurant and bar (but it's Heathrow, what do you expect?) the heating was waaaaay too warm though, however I've been told when it's warm outside it's warm inside and when it's cold outside it's cold inside, so I'm bringing my woollies for November!!!

That's a start with some general stuff anyway....will post some pics of the group talks here and a few of Tom, Garry and Peter as they don't have very popular threads here on GW!...

Thanks for the fast reply. I'm not on DW/LJ, so non-pg it is for me.

Yeah, usually the "big stars" are hardly able to just walk around, sadly.

There is no such thing than "too warm" for me. Never been to Heathrow for a con but I guess it's pretty convenient travel-wise. Just jumping out of the airplane and you're there.

You could stand outside the hotel and watch them land honey.....the runway was across the road!!!...

As for the big stars being protected, they need it sadly.....trust me, there are still fans there who if they knew which room Michael or any of the big 3/4 were staying in and/or were walking around on their own they would NOT leave them alone..

At my first con, AT3, I remember being surprised that AT had security. My naive Canadian self thought that all fans would be like me, interested to see and meet the guest but respectful of the individual as I would be with anyone. I soon realized that not everyone was like me and there was a need for security. Very sad IMO.

Thanks to Pengyn, SamJackShipLover and Mala for the sig.

I agree, I also went to AT3 (first AT con) and was surprised by the body guards. They turned out to be very nice guys. They hung around after the event was over and we were all talking with them. But it is sad that they need to be protected. I'm not so sure it is from the AT1 thru 6 fans as much as that odd ball weirdo that might pop up without warning!

All the main SG-1 stars still need them I think.....it also helps keep them "on track" and on time for their commitments if they're not being stopped every minute for hugs, chats and requests.....yeah it sucks but we as Con goers should accept that we pay for their time at certain moments only....they, like us, need time during the Con to chill and be themself or they'd probably go mad....

And yes, there's usually one that will overstep the mark somewhere - maybe not with malicious intent but just with the idea that they are perhaps something "more special/deserving of attention" in their own mind....

Who knows?....all I know is I keep my "hello's" to the correct times and ask for hugs only at the photo shoots!....

The weekend was great. Had loads of fun. Parties till 2am with Tom McBeth on friday night- he wanted us to take pictures with him at the party and if he saw people taking photoes he tried to get in them. He had so much to tell. Pete some of us partied with till 2.30 on saturday night. What a great guy and so funny. He also wanted us to take photoes with him and said if anyone askes why were taking photoes- blame him. Gary was great, he partied with us a bit. Amanda was nice and funny but shame she didnt come to the parties. Robin was the same. But the 2 had heavy securety. I did manage so say hello to him and asked him how his flight was on the friday when he was at the consierge desk though. Funniest moments of the weekends were - The auction and Robin undressing in it, Peters impressions and the last talk on sunday. Overall fantastic weekend. Only gripes a tad expensive and it did get a bit hot in the hallways. Can't wait till my next con. MISSING EVERYONE!
