Okay, here's my first attempt at a challenge piece. Not nearly as gorgeous as Jann's of course:



The abstract stuff is hard for me, so this is a good challenge for me! I'll try one with a pic later...

I didn't use a tut. And this is so utterly simple, you'll laugh when I tell you how to do it. I'm in GIMP, but I think most of it will translate.

The secret to just about any of my artwork is the brushes. I. Love. Brushes. That being said, here's the brush sets I used for this wp:

Water Color brushes
Water Painting brushes
Splatter brushes
And this one, too.

You'll also need a brush that is very fuzzy around the edges. Choose one you like. I don't think I used all of the above, but they're good ones to have for this project and just in general, anyway.

The texture: Old Parchent
Really, download a nice parchment texture or two! I use them all the time.

My WPs are always 1600x1200, 600 dpi.

* Import the parchment as your background. I duplicated it, desaturated, and set to overlay with the opacity around 70 to give it a more washed-out look.
* Bring in the Booth pic as a new layer. Desaturate. Add a black layer mask (full transparency). Booth will disappear.
* Set your foreground color as white and select that brush with fuzzy edges. Click over the Booth pic. When you have enough of Booth showing for your taste (*pauses for guttery thoughts*), apply the mask.
* New layer, transparent. Situate it above the parchment, but below Booth (*pauses again for guttery thoughts...fans self*) Select black or gray for your foreground color and use one of the water color brushes. I use a different layer for each brush stroke, and vary the colors, trying to keep them similar to each other and the background of the pic. Each set I've linked you to has enough variety that you can have lots of fun with this step. Use a gassian blur to fuzz out the edges and make it look like paint bleeding into the paper, but not on all the layers.
* When I had enough black and gray behind Booth, I made another layer, transparent, for the red splatter. You could use another water color brush, too, if you want. Whatever works. I set this layer to Grain merge and played with the opacity a bit.

Add text.
