Heh...I think the US economy will always suck.

My advice? Get that jar and start filling it up pronto with Christmas money, birthday money, spare change, whatever!! If you wait for things to change here and the dollar to actually be worth something, you'll never go!

When I went last year, honestly the biggest expense was the ticket(s) and airfare. I didnt spend as much as I thought I would on food and there isnt too much to see in the area being that the Ren is next to the airport.

If you can save and first buy your ticket to the event then you'll be fine. Airfare can be bought later as the date narrows. Usually there's a good 6 months in between the announcement/ticket sales and the actual event happening so this way its very possible of a thing to do. Lots of peeps do it anyways so you wont be alone.

Hehe, true. I'm thinking London will be a second or third year thing. I think I'm at least 60% towards going to Chicago though.

What? Waddaya mean nothing to see? It's right next to the airport as in "next to the runway". In case you didn't notice, people pay to stay at the hotel and watch planes land and take off!
No kidding, they have the "plane spotter special" at weekends.
It includes two nights and exclusive entry to the plane spotter lounge - or whatever it is called - a huge room with a panoramic view of the runway.
Let's just say that the price was kind of scary, the Gabit discount is a *very* good deal.


AT AT1 and 2 I had a room on the same side of the hotel and we saw a bunch of spotters bbq-ing on the parking lot, watching for new and exciting planes.

Anyway, not much to see is relative. You can get into a huge adventure just by crossing the street to go to the gas station.
Well, it's an adventure for anyone who is used to driving on the right side of the street, consequently, I keep looking in the wrong direction.

12 years of travelling to GB and I still can't get used to the traffic.

LOL...my room FACED the airport runway and it was a hilarious sight for me. Airplane spotting or whatever they all call it has to be the strangest thing in the world..well, at least for this lil' american girl. What's to see fcol? A plane is a plane is a plane is a plane.

Heh..my forays into the outside world were quite an adventure I guess. Crazy Brits driving on the wrong side of the road and us silly tourists walking around with our sights either on the 'wrong way' traffic or looking down for directions as to which way to look. I dont know how many times I stepped out into the road thinking it was clear, looking down to read and hopping back up onto the curb cos I was about to be flattened.

Chicago ey? Depending on when Gatecon and AT4 are being held, I'm still thinking of heading up there myself. I only live about 45 min from the city so who knows? Maybe we'll have a chance to meet in person up there.

There is a Simpsons plane out there.
Some planes have advertisements on them. Then there are planes like the huge new airbus that everyone wants to see.

I took a tour of the Frankfurt Airport and - for security reasons - we were not allowed to take photos of an El Al plane.
A spotter would have to take a photo from outside the airport.

So, yeah, a plane isn't just a plane!

Note: no, I am not a spotter nor do I have time or equipment for such a hobby. I just can relate to the weirdest of hobbies.

I know!!! I was so hoping there would be a date now I'm back from holiday. But ... I can be more patient, I'm still all relaxed from the trip.

umm... is there a date set for AT 4 yet? I don't know how I got it in my head that it might be in spring... Now I can't find any info about it.

Well hey!! What can I say??? I'm bored!!! Well not bored so much as sick of everyone asking when I'm going. I'm thinking they might be actually glad to see the back of me...maybe they need a countdown to when I go and they can party!!

All this talk of planes...I had a dream last night that hubby and I were heading on a trip and when we got the airport we had forgotten our tickets...luckily we had a spare 3 and a bit hours so mum came to the rescue and brought our tickets to us. But then when we boarded the plane hubby forgot to get boarding passes and the plane started taxiing out and were standing in the plane waiting for the stewardess to get us a seat. It was kinda weird!!!
I just found out tonight that I'm gonna have to find another $300 dollars for a passport!!! There goes dinner and lunch!!! Dang!!!

I need me a date...(for the event...not a man...I got one of those already!!!)...so I can put it in my new diary!!!

Ah, so it's the paint job. Okay, I guess I can see it then though its still a bit odd for me. I really don't think people do this sort of thing here in the States so just the idea of it sits weird with me still.

Very pretty pics though. Thanks for digging up the site and stuff. There was one that looked like it had a psychedelic look to it that I really wish someday I could fly in just to say I did.
