*bites tongue* (Too many responses that are likely to get me into trouble just popped into my head, so we'll go with this instead Yes, the wet noodle of doom makes me nervous, dangit! LOL)

Starsong, in answer to your question about AT6 plans...
Yes, I plan to be bouncing about a bit visiting mates in England around the con - that's usually what I end up doing, anyway! I'm also hoping to spend a few days in either Germany or possibly Paris while over in Europe. Possibly Dublin as well, depending on whether the friends in Dublin plan on joining in on the other excursion or not.

As for before/after, that's a bit up in the air atm. I know I'll be able to take 8 days from work, so have potentially 17 days in total available ... but I won't have the actual dates confirmed until the beginning of May. So I know what I'd ideally like to do and when (have AT6 sandwiched in the middle), and my boss is fairly confident that because I'm asking for non-peak holidays I'll likely get when I ask for ... however, I'm hoping to hold off on firm plans until after I get the okay in writing!

              How about you?

For travel plans if I can make it to AT6, I would like to visit Scotland and possibly Ireland.

Thank you for the reminder that I'd wanted to throw out a question for the wisdom of the group...

It's possible that I could be a postgrad in England for AT6 (which would dramatically reduce my airfare costs, yay!). I'm now in the last phase of researching universities/regions and I'll probably be making one final trip in late February. About the regions, anybody have any suggestions for sightseeing and/or things to keep in mind? I'm considering Portsmouth, Coventry and Huddersfield. (Not in that order, just went south to north.)

I might have to save those places for when I pop over for AT8. AT6 will find me hopping around Paris, Berlin & hopefully more of London.

                      Well Ames:

I'm starting to put together a list of Medieval sites I want to visit/research. Since it will be in the Fall the Universities will be in session so I hope to be able to "crash" into some seminars on the topic. Big surprise a number of Universities in England have whole programs in Medieval History. If any of you have suggestions of places in your area that might not be a well known as others let me know.

Very cool! I spent most of my time in Durham. I was the token "professional" in an otherwise student house, so spent a LOT of time at grad society events Luckily for me, I did a minor in musicology in my undergrad, so could hold my own in academic conversations. TBF, I edited enough papers for my roomies that I could usually hold my own in archeology discussions as well - yay for having an English/Classics degree! My best mates is an Iron Age archeology specialist, but three of our mates are medievalists (specialising in structural archeology, military history, and ... medical history, I believe). One is currently in California, but the other two of them still live in a village near Durham I'll shoot the girls a query if they can recommend some universities that you might want to check out in particular

                          Ames:

Thank you very much. Getting suggestions from "people in the area" is really great. Sometimes the local sites can be just as or more fun than the more well known ones.

I'm taking a history course this semester that covers England from 1200-1250. I guess a lot was going on during that period; I'll find out tomorrow when classes start. I plan to be in England from around the beginning of October until AT6; at least that is the current plan

Currently plan on trying for a ticket to AT6. If I get one then I will have to see how things work out. I have another trip that November (Grey Cup) that I will probably do and may have a girls' weekend in Vegas that month as well. I will lobby my friends to do the Vegas trip some other month because I really can't see doing all three. Assuming AT6 works out, I am thinking of bringing one of my nephews with me (to London, not to AT6). I have taken other trips with nieces and nephews and it is his turn. If that comes about I will probably come to London a week early and do some travelling with him, then give him the option of doing some touring on his own the weekend of AT6 (as he will be familiar with the tube, etc by then) or heading home.

Thanks to Pengyn, SamJackShipLover and Mala for the sig.

My only concern is exposing him to the craziness at The Ren!
