Season 5 Ratings thread

Still no figures for the seed and final ones for s&r? maybe im impatient but i thought the numbers were out quicker last season. or maybe there was more talk about it here and on jm's blog

the seed im going for a 1.2 going up to a 1.3 with + 7

Seeing that SGA got a 1.3 was a little depressing for me. It's not bad, but it makes me feel like barely anyone is watching good television!

But hey, I was on the iTunes store yesterday, and The Seed was the #8 most downloaded Tv episode. Which isn't too bad at all considering just about every show is for sale there. That made me happy! Just figured I'd share

I understand as I feel the same though at least it's not doing too shabby.

The Final numbers for "Search and Rescue" will be out on Monday, we should also know the initial ratings for 3 eps by then also. As per the Seed, I can see it getting around a 1.1 or 1.2 for Live+SD, but after all DVR a 1.4!

S&R I am shooting for a 1.6 Rating.

While the same day ratings may count for more, it's silly to assume that that's all they're interested in, if the live+7 numbers didn't make a difference than Nielsen wouldn't count them.

If I had to guess (and this is just a wild guess), I'd say that Live+Same Day is what they send to ad-break advertisers, and Live+7 is what they send to product-placement advertisers. Live+7 is virtually useless to any company advertising with ad-breaks, because people edit out the ads. This is especially true because many ads are time sensitive (advertising a newly arriving product, or a sale, or a game, or a TV show premier, etc). But Live+7 is very useful in calculating how many people are exposed to product-placement type ads, because it doesn't matter how quickly people watch the ep, as long as they do. Most of these products are long established brands, and you are just trying to remind people that your brand exists, not trying to implant a new product in their mind. So these ads aren't time-sensitive.

Personally, and this is just me personally obviously, not them, if I were them I'd also count various types of downloading for product-placement ad numbers, because for that type of ad it really doesn't matter how people obtain the show, just how many people watch it.

Networks are looking at Live+7 as being important because it shows a more steady viewing of a show. They can also see how many people are really interested in and watching the show and can see how many potential "Live" audiences there can be. The network needs to get these people to watch live with some kind of incentives, like contests and whatnot where they can call in at that moment. I also like the idea of product placement. I think advertisers would be more interested in all DVR numbers if that were to happen. As per the Commerical viewing for DVr playback, SCI FI does very well and was the # 1 network last season for Commercial viewing during DVR playback. So hopefully that continues. With this case DVR is even more important since people are watching the commercials.

Because that ruins the moment. I mean, think about it; would you have wanted them to advertise for Cialis or something during Carson's funeral in Sunday?

I think as long as the next few episodes (episodes 2-10) stay above 1.0 mark everything will be great and 99.99% renewal for a sixth season. if we start getting lower than a 1.0 rating its time to worry but i dont think it will happen.

We will not see numbers for The Seed until like a week from Monday on SCI FI wire. What is interesting to know is that the final numbers should be out by next Monday for S&R, which I am hoping for a SCI FI press release. Which will likely include Eureka's premiere, GHI's premiere, Scare Tactic's premiere, and SGA's premiere. They will use the Live+7 in the press release for 3 out of 4 of these shows if this press release does happen.
