    Stargate: Atlantis - No Little Sister To Predecessor

    August 8, 2008 - 10:45 am

    By Dr. Joe Di Lella

    At this year’s 2008 Comic Con, Brad Wright (co-creator and executive producer of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atantis) admitted to the standing-room only audience that he secretly believed cancellation for the original series was always “just around the corner - but it never came.” Wright, whose first series lasted ten years, added that as a TV executive you “can’t count on failure, so you just have to keep plugging away” until the network drags you away kicking and screaming.

    Wright takes the same approach to SG-1’s sister series, Stargate Atlantis that embarks on its fifth season on the SCI FI Channel.

    **snippage**

    Brad Wright smiled broadly when asked about the possibility of additional spin-offs of the popular series. “Stargate Universe has been close to happening [in the past] . . . If you like us, we’ll do our best to create more quality television, but for now, we want to focus on Atlantis because there are a lot more stories to tell.”

      Funny about Woolsey, some people are apologizing and saying they were wrong about Woolsey and actually like him.

          Interviews - Actor

          Written by Kait Silva

          Saturday, 09 August 2008

          Stargate: Atlantis has been a bonafide science-fiction stronghold since 2004. As the show progresses through its fifth season, the Pegasus Galaxy is changing more than ever. That means a new dynamic for writer and actors alike.

          **snippage**

          With this ability, Stargate has managed to keep itself fresh over the years initiating clever, stylized episodes that can be enjoyed no matter what genre the viewer prefers. This season, the writers are trying another new twist.

          **snippage**

          Aliens and babies and ‘90s throwbacks, oh my! It looks like we can expect one heck of a season for Stargate: Atlantis every Friday at 10 p.m. on the Sci-Fi channel. New episodes resume August 15th -- the replicators are back to wreak havoc once again!

            SGA - Multichannel News: Olympics Won't Alter Cable Schedules:

            From Multichannel News:

            Olympics Won't Alter Cable Schedules

            Basic Networks to Go Ahead With Originals During Beijing Games

            by R. Thomas Umstead -- Multichannel News, 8/11/2008

            It'll be business as usual for cable networks during NBC's two-week presentation of the Summer Olympics which began last week.

            Networks such as TNT and A&E Network — and even NBCU-owned networks carrying Olympics coverage, like USA Network — said they would continue to air new episodes of their top scripted series against NBC's primetime coverage of the Aug. 8 to 24 Beijing Summer Games. Network executives say they're not concerned about losing viewers to NBC's Olympics coverage, which drew 203 million total, unduplicated viewers during the broadcast network's two-week coverage of the 2004 games in Athens.

            **snippage**

            NBCU-owned cable services such as USA Network, Sci Fi Channel and Oxygen are continuing to air original episodes of popular series. USA's 165 hours of mostly non-primetime coverage of men's and women's basketball, soccer, tennis, volleyball and water polo will not affect original airings of its highly rated scripted series, including Monk, Psych, Burn Notice and Law & Order: Criminal Intent, according to network officials.

            **snippage**

            While Sci Fi was expected to pre-empt new episodes of its Friday-night lineup of Doctor Who and Stargate Atlantis against NBC's Aug. 8 coverage of the Olympics opening ceremonies, it will resume original episodes for both shows this week. The network also will continue with new episodes of its Tuesday night franchise Eureka throughout its parent company's Olympics run.

            **snippage**

            From May 5 through July 27, cable is averaging a 67 primetime household share compared to a 37 share for the broadcast networks.

                        We’ve got a clip from this week’s episode of Stargate Atlantis, which is titled “The Ghost in the Machine” and is set to air this Friday night at 10:00 p.m. on the SciFi channel. I’ve never seen an episode of this series so I can’t say whether or not the video is all that spoilery so read and view at your own risk.

                            The MySpace Stargate Central Command site has a widget to countdown the days, hours, minutes until the next new episode:

                            I copied this code into a HTML/JavaScript window for my google blog

                            <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowScriptAccess="never" allowNetworking="internal" height="87" width="385" style="border: solid 0px black" data="http://otherlandonline.com/stargate/newSkin/flash/countdown.swf">
                            <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="never" />
                            <param name="allowNetworking" value="internal" />
                            <param name="movie" value="http://otherlandonline.com/stargate/newSkin/flash/countdown.swf" />
                            <param name="menu" value="false" />
                            <param name="scale" value="exactfit" />
                            </object>

                            And this is the result:

                                Mankind's only chance to re-write history

                                Stargate Atlantis, showing Tuesday August 19th on Sky One at 8:00pm

                                Stargate Atlantis returns for its fifth season, with plenty of stunning special effects, adrenaline-rushing action and blistering battles to look forward to.

                                The Atlantis expedition receives a new commander as Richard Woolsey (Robert Picardo) joins the team. Other new faces include Leela Savasta as Captain Alicia Vega (a member of the military contingent and of a new all-woman recon team), and Nicole de Boer as Alison Porter.

                                The new series picks off from where it left off. Far away in the Pegasus Galaxy is the lost city of Atlantis. It's inhabited by a specialist military contingent from Earth, who fight to keep various alien species at bay. Last season's finale saw Lieutenant Colonel John Sheppard (Joe Flanigan) travel to an apocalyptic future where the human race had been wiped out. Now in the present, Sheppard is mankind's only chance to re-write history, but he's trapped under a collapsed building, along with several Atlantis crew members.

                                Colonel Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping) attempts to rescue them, but it's a race against time, as the Wraith hybrids close in...

                                Did you know? This season the programme will celebrate its 100th episode.
