The third SG1 movie is being written and should film roughly the same time.

That could be it, too much going on, there is also focus on getting SGU ready for next summer... It still feels like being short changed though and if TPTB really wanted to I think a second movie could be written up to follow the first sooner than what will probably happen.

It most definitely feels like that. But that's what happens when there are simply too many projects being put into motion at the same time.

SG-1 will always be MGM's baby in this franchise. SGU is the new pet project. SGA is the middle child of the bunch. Kind of like an afterthought, an also-ran, the cute, quirky best friend to the main character whom everyone loves, but never gets all the attention it deserves because it's stuck in the shadow of the leading man.

I say, while you have the cast available, shoot two movies at once, and spread them out.

I mean, if you shoot the third SG-1 movie at the same time, you have to work to finalize two movies at once, so just spread it out a bit more: first one Atlantis movie on telly and immediately to DVD too, on meanwhile, make sure you finish up on the SG-1 one, so it can be released a few months further, and then finish up the second SGA one, and release it a few months after, too...

I don't know such a thing is possible, but it gives us a nice flow of new eps, versus make them at the same time and release them at the same time, and get the next ones, if that's going to happen, about a year and a half, if lucky, later...

It's just a very bad deal.

LOL, "Creative" is basically this in a nutshell, SCI FI didn't cancel this show and would of continued, but the creators wanted it to end to make room for their new baby. Poor Atlantis is the middle child.

Oh, it's most definitely possible. That's how the two Matrix sequels were shot and the final two Lord of the Rings movies (I'm fairly certain) as well. I'm not 100% sure about LotR but I know for a fact that Matrix was shot this way.

So TPTB could conceivably write the SG-1 and SGA movies, shoot them at the same time and then release them at different dates.

Alternately, they could write two SGA scripts, shoot them at the same time, and release them a year or so apart. Granted, that may be more problematic because MGM hasn't decided if SGA is worth 2 movies yet, but it's a possibility.
