i think, more than us silly fen not liking thier work, that when critics by and large were panning lucius and his extreme silliness that they were forced to sit up and go 'mmmhm, maybe he's not such a wonderful idea'

and yeah, they make what they want to make and what they deem as 'good'...just don't take it personally or blame us when we don't define 'good' the same way
Where in the World is George Hammond?

Yeah, I take most of the comments TPTB make about their show and characters and throw them out the window. Adrift was the best season opener ever? Please. s4 is dark? Hardly. Teyla has a great arc this season? Where, exactly? There's going to be conflict between Carter and the team? Uh huh. Everyone is going to love Keller? Don't make me laugh.

It won't be long before the PR machine starts churning for s5. I'll be discounting most of that too.

If the 100th ep was going to be a comedic one, you can bet that Lucius would turn up in some way or another. Not to mention all the in-jokes meant to poke at certain fan groups or people who hold certain opinions.

If only everyone could take that view, sometimes I get the feeling that if TPTB said the sky was green people would believe then cause TPTB never get stuff wrong.

the fact that they thought he was so great he deserved an encore when he was one of the most disliked characters on the show. Just kinda shows how out of touch they are with fans in general

Lucious...oh god...what a joke of a character. One appearance was more than enough of him. by round two it was hard to even watch...with medication.

Irresistible and Irresponsible was another attempt to make Stargate into a comedy disguised as a science fiction show. Both eps were horrendous with frat house based jokes and situations. The character, Lucious was a knock of of John Belushi, from what has got to be an icon movie for tptb. However, the movie was a comedy and not a science fiction show.

I guess he was supposed to be the classic lovable louse, like Charlie Chaplin the "little tramp" (who was far more entertaining) or Homer Simpson who has far better values than Lucious.

The character just came across as a slim bucket and really nothing more.

The second ep I'm sure was taped before the first ep aired, thus there was nothing they could do but go forward. However, I wouldn't put it past tptb to bring Lucious back in season 5.

Even though he was a hated character...we still talk about him and bring him up. That's all the reasoning tptb need to revive that dead horse.

Well, not to defend the writers or anything, but both Lucius eps took place in the same season, so I don't think it was a case of them deliberately bringing back a much-despised character as much as it was a case of TPTB being so far out of touch with reality and so enamored of their own writing "prowess" that they probably couldn't even conceive the idea that anyone (beyond the usual suspects) could ever dislike Lucius. And since they loved him so much and they thought he was a great character, why not treat themselves (and fans) to another appearance?

And then Irresistible aired to waves of hatred and left the writers in a state of sulky shock. Hate Lucius?! How could they possible hate Lucius?? But alas, the second ep had already been written (and possibly filmed) so there was nothing they could do but bull forward with it.

I'm still not sure they understand why so many found him objectionable, though, and I doubt they've learned anything from this lesson beyond maybe the fact that fans aren't as smart as they thought- which is kinda scary, given the low opinion many of them seem to have about us.

As for how any of this S4 talk applies to S5, like I said, I think the writers are completely out of touch with what fans want. But then again, I don't think they really care, either, as they've gone to great lengths to remind us all that this is their show and they are writing a show that they like. That means macho, womanizing men and their comical sidekicks, interchangeable females and an ineffective leadership (other than the Almighty Shep, of course, Who Can Do No Wrong).

Will Lucius show up again in S5? Probably not. I think TPTB were hurt and insulted by his rejection, but then again, that could be used as a reason to bring him back. It'd be another "frak you" to fandom, it'd prove that it's still TPTB's show, it'd give them a chance to play with a character they love and maybe even act as an opportunity to try and prove to us why he's so awesome.

Or as an alternative, we could wind up with Lucius's twin brother, who's nothing more than a victim of his evil brother's machinations. He's an angel. A paragon of virtue. Not a sly thought enters his his head. Really.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure both eps were written and filmed by the time the first aired.

That low opinion is very disheartening because I remember a time when they were pleased we wouldn't receive a character (Anise/Tok'Ra Spice) that was designed to make men's eyes pop. As the sig says, "No more Gekko..." I know they were seriously thrown when the date rape drug aspect was thrown in. D'Oh!

Good twin? Like Abe Lincoln Hogg to (Boss) Jewsfferson Davis Hogg on The Dukes of Hazzard?

Yeah, I have misgivings about S5. But most have been in place for years so that's nothing new.

The fist hurdle is now they write off Sam and put Woolsey in charge. Here's hope for some depthand I don't mean sinking to the depths..., but... I ain't holdin' my breath.

I am capable of chewing a lot of plot holes and continuity faults, but when the laws of physics get butchered the way they are in S4 and when military officers are celebrated for commiting horrible crimes against their countries, it makes me nauseous

With all the subpar material RL has recieved over the years she has done an amazing job at taking it and incorperating it into her character. She deserves so muc more and should be boosted to leading lady position, but given TPTB's imminent midlife crisis they're in the stage of replacing good actors with younger hotter women. Why did they have to give control to Mallozzi? Worst mistake. Ever.

See: "Change". The only writer that really knows how to write Teyla IMO is Carl Binder. With a few sucky ones I've liked the majority of his episodes he's wrote/planned too. (The only ones of his I truly hated were Missing and Quarentine ...) They should of just let him write all the episodes

I agree with you way more than I can say - way more than one hundred percent! Once Elizabeth and Carson were gone I no longer had the urgency to watch the show. I condemn anyone who say Carson should not have been made a regular. Even when the episodes were not Lizzie or Carson centric they were always an enjoyable presence. Both were good role models too. I don't care if they didn't go off-world most of the time or iddn't sit at the lunch table. They were still a part of the team. Part of the family.

I'm sick of the forced team moments.

This year the only episodes I've watched all the way through (without fast-forwarding or FH cut version) were Lifeline, Miller's Corssing, This Mortal Coil and Spoils of War. The others ones made me go 'blegh' and I haven't even peeked at Outcast or Midway yet

Lucius was an extremly bad joke. What bothers me is that they basically sent a message that using date rape drug wasn't that big deal in "Irresistible". It is a big deal.

A little back on topic - while I LOVE Shep and Rodney, I don't want them in my face 24/7. But I could expect more of this come s5
