Okay, so someone else already mentioned that. But still....

Actually, I agree that Carter isn't one for smart-mouthed quips. Especially when there's nobody around to hear them. (Not even the enemy.) At that point, in that situation, if you say anything, it's only for your own benefit. If it were me, I would have said "Kiefer, I've always loved you!" (wait, did I type that out loud.....?)

Maybe Sam wouldn't actually say this, probably thinking it as she watches the inevitable. But it fits that moment. I'd think she was saying goodbye to her dearest while putting her plans in motion; the lady does multi-tasketh so well.

Perhaps another avenue to explore is what her epitaph would be; like a military one: “This is the people’s war. It is our war. We are the fighters. Fight it, then. Fight it with all that is in us, and may God defend the right.” (Mrs. Miniver (1942)- movie). I could hear Woolsey saying that at a *sob* memorial to Sam.
