Ellis is the worst ship captain

I like the Ellis character, his conflict with Rodney has made for some decent scenes, and it has been a consistent character that hasn't had their views dramatically change in the course of a few episodes like Everett in the season 1 finale.

I don't think I could really judge the worth of an actor based on a few episodes of Atlantis; the show doesn't really put characters in serious emotional scenes very often which is something I don't mind, not everything has to be about harsh reality.

I just get the feeling that Ellis is a bad character but he's just written that way and I think he portrays it pretty well. If anyone else agrees on this I think it's the height that makes him not seem like a good ship captain because all the other commanders were pretty tall and he's comparatively short.
