The Ori created it!!!! It's the predecessor of the plague that they cause right now!

Would be cool having the Ori in SGA as well.

no she only said bout awakening a great enemy. didn't say wraith

HOLOGRAM: ... exchange knowledge and friendship. (Above her head a three dimensional holographic map of the galaxy appears.) In time, a thousand worlds bore the fruit of life in this form. Then one day our people stepped foot upon a dark world where a terrible enemy slept. Never before had we encountered beings with powers that rivalled our own. In our over-confidence, we were unprepared and outnumbered. The enemy fed upon defenceless human worlds like a great scourge until finally only Atlantis remained. This city's great shield was powerful enough to withstand their terrible weapons but here we were besieged for many years. In an effort to save the last of our kind, we submerged our great city into the ocean. The Atlantis Stargate was the one and only link back to Earth from this galaxy, and those who remained used it to return to that world that was once home. There, the last survivors of Atlantis lived out the remainder of their lives. This city was left to slumber, in the hope that our kind would one day return.

The funny thing is that that quote from Rising disproves your arguement, but you use it to support your argument.

              1. "Then one day our people stepped foot upon a dark world where a terrible enemy slept."
Slept - Wraith sleep for long durations between feedings.

              2. "Never before had we encountered beings with powers that rivalled our own."
Powers - Not technology, powers. The wraith possess the power to suck the life force out of a person, and they can communicate telepathically. Humans don't possess powers like that usually, but some ancients do.

              3. "The enemy fed upon defenceless human worlds like a great scourge until finally only Atlantis remained.
Fed on defenceless human - Wraith feed on humans.

Also, the nanovirus didn't effect people with the ATA gene, so it'd be pretty silly of them to make a bioweapon that wouldn't work on their enemies.
              Jarnin's Law of StarGate:

              1. As a StarGate discussion grows longer, the probability of someone mentioning the Furlings approaches one.

And then in "Before I Sleep", Weir goes back in time and low and behold, Atlantis is all that remains, and who are the people attacking them? The wraith are the only enemy. While it might be nice for it to be someone else, the dark enemy is indeed the Wraith. That still doesn't preclude the existence of another more secretive race that fights through techniques like nanotech viruses that terrorize human victims before killing them. However, the "dark enemy" is undoubtedly the Wraith.

Unless TPTB feel like digging a giant plothole, which I wouldn't put totally past them.

Yes, and the enemy that beat them back to Atlantis is the enemy they saw, and the dark enemy. Therefore, the dark enemy is the Wraith.

the enemy is a former resident of PG, probably there when the ancients came.
The nano virus was created to not kill ancients, but it still terrified them, and they might be able to still spread it. IF thats right the HZ virus makers may have wanted the ancients to seem like evil plague bringers, sort of like the ori, except the ori dont know of atlantis or PG existence

Wouldn't the former residents of PG be culled already?

Not likely. The Ancients chose Pegasus because they thought it devoid of sentient life. Any prior occupants would have to be stealthy enough to avoid detection by the Ancients, which means the Wraith would probably overlook them just as easily.

well, the HZ aliens could be behind the raise of the Wraith, sorta have lend a helping hand in thir development to a interstellar power form the mutated bugs.
Turning the ancients lifeseeding into a kind of antilife or something along that line.

And the ancient never learned about that and thought the wraith are the real enmey while instead the wraith a "just" a bioweapon.
