When you are performing, you almost have otherwise you would be a total flop which is worse then being embarassed. At least with writing, people can't see you so you can always pretend it wasn't you!
Though both are extememly personal experiences!

It does feel private and that's what makes it hard to write, but once you start, it is hard to stop!
