Such great episodes. I loved McKay in SG1, no one gets to Sam like he does, and the Anubis comments...

      Yet more hand porn!
I rewatched Hide and Seek and noticed a cute little hand flail/clench that Rodney does with his left hand right before drinking the doomed coffee. You can kind of see it in action here:

The pic doesn't do it justice though, you have to actually see the clip.

Oh, Rodney's little hand twitch. It looks like he's rubbing a coin between his fingers. That's a nice piece of business David has for Rodney. Rodney does the hand twitch thing when he's really unsure of himself, or when he's very nervous or concerned.

What's really neat is when Rodney is saying one thing, his words all sure and arrogant, but his hands give him away.

In Rising, there's one scene where Rodney is twitching both hands. He was really nervous!

While Rodney usually does the hand twitch thing with his arm down, in Thirty-Eight Minutes he was testing that control panel with his arms up when he twitched his left hand. Rodney usually twitches his left hand.

          Sigh...

"Is the GW server fixed yet?!"

Poor impatient Rodney. Looks like he's going through withdrawl because he can't regularly check his thunk thread.

Nice one Toaster.....here's another to try an lighten the mood.

I'm sorry, but I get hypoglycemic when I'm stressed.
            On fighting:
Farrah: "A swordsman does not fear death, if he dies with honor."
Dr. Who: "Then he's an idiot."

I tend to think that when he was cut and he didn't cave, they threatened Elizabeth (possibly with torture) and that's when he told them what was going on.
Ok, maybe it's the semantics. In The Storm,
                Spoiler:
Rodney says he caved in. Rodney says to Elizabeth, "I tried to keep my mouth shut, I tried. I just couldn't."

Rodney isn't trained in how to behave in a kidnapping/torture situation. He's not good with people, he can't manipulate them with words like Elizabeth or John might. All Rodney believes he has is his brain and his pride. He shown a tendency to panic. He really doesn't want to be hurt. I believe when he was first cut and threatened with more pain, he talked. Rodney wasn't going to be stoic and hold out until Elizabeth was threatened. Threats to his own person were enough.

I take what is said in an episode at face value. I don't try to read more into it if it's going to be a big point. And your point that Rodney is told that something would happen to Elizabeth if he didn't talk is a very big point but it's not implied anywhere in the episode.

Rodney isn't contemptuous. He's starts out very subdued, letting Elizabeth do all the talking. In The Eye,
                Spoiler:
at the grounding station when Kolya demands that Rodney do something about the lockout John has placed in the Control Room, Rodney backs away from Kolya until he's up against the railing and can go no futher. When Koyla has Rodney bent back over the railing, and making as if to throw Rodney over into the sea, Rodney is so afraid, he slips back into his normal arrogant tone. "You still need me! You still need both of us!" But when Kolya lets him go and walks away, Rodney's knees almost give out as he puts his head in is hands. The man who says he can't bluff, just did so in a very big way. A very powerful scene by David.

Later, in the Control Room, when Rodney tells Koyla the plan to save the city won't work, "I don’t know if you noticed or not but I’m an extremely arrogant man who tends to think all of his plans will work!" Rodney is again bluffing for all he's worth. He gets hit in the face for his efforts, but Kolya believes him.

                In The Brotherhood,
                Spoiler:
Rodney has had time to come to terms with his previous actions and behavior. And he's not going to show Koyla that the Genii has any power over him.

He's a different man, now. The events that happened between The Storm/The Eye and The Brotherhood have changed Rodney. Of all the expedition members, the experiences they've all faced in the Pegasus Galaxy have affected him the most. The experiences are more outside his own comfort zone than anyone else.

For someone in his situation in "The Eye", he acted better than most people. I think in the end, it was his arrogance and sarcasm that saved him and Atlantis. People tend to believe people when they're sarcastic--maybe it's because they think that if you're sarcastic, you're not scared. They'd be wrong, but still a lifesaver!

Rodney was scared though. And you could tell he was scared. The reason he was able to pull it off was because his and Liz's life were at stake. Infact all of Atlantis was at stake, so he had no choice but to figure out a way to save Atlantis. And he couldnt do it without Liz's help either, he probably would have done something stupid if she wasnt there to keep him in check.

Or how about this... (all way too big for sigs unfortunately and slightly bobbly being gifs). Feel free to take them though, crediting me of course, but no hotlinking - especially my server, it can't take much load without crippling our house internet.

Sarcasm implies open taunting and ridicule. You need to be pretty sure of yourself in order to engage in sarcasm.

Arrogant means he's overly convinced of his importance. That Rodney is important is a truism. That he's more important than anyone else is subject to discussion.

This is not a military mission. This is not a diplomatic mission. This is a scientific mission, to find new tech that will help us in the war back in the Milky Way. The military and diplomatic components of the expedition are to support the science.

In that respect, Rodney is the head of the most important part of the expedition. You need all three components of diplomacy, military and science to work toward the common goal, but the overriding mission is about the science.

Bwahaha! You've taken hand porn to a new level! And I get blamed for your insanity!

Make sure you hang onto all that stuff too. Maybe there should be a hand porn section in the M/W central page?
