When he was first introduced I got the sense that he really did want to be liked. He wasn't just some arrogant SOB without a heart. He just never let that get in the way of his work. I can see why he wouldn't have a lot of friends. It must have been hard to be so much more smarter then anyone else. His arrogances and lack of some social skills didn't help things either but that was probably made worse by not having people at his level that he could identify with.
I think it wasn't until he got to the SGC that he actually meet someone who could be his intellectual equal. I believe it was his relationship with Sam that began to change him. Then on Atlantis, he finally meet a group of people he could actually call his peers. A more diverse group of people, then he has ever worked with before, who were as smart as him in their respective fields. I think he changed the most on Atlantis because of the combination of people that were willing to see him for more than just his intellect (see thru all the arrogance) and for him to finally really open up to other people.
I love that even tho his friends on Atlantis accept him, he can still be arrogant, petty and bad with just about everybody else they meet in the Pegasus Galaxy.sigpic
Sig by the Multi Talented KASS. : )

On the other (how many hands do I have? lol), he is an arrogant b****** who manages to alienate everyone around him, but at the same time is somehow... vulnerable. He's egotistical, petty and bad with people, but he also bends over backwards to help his friends and is smarter than anyone in that galaxy (because Carter really is as smart as he is ).
Yup, McKay is the perfectly flawed character. Wonderful. I, for one, wouldn't have him any other way.sigpic

Something just caught my attention in JM´s blog, one of the older posts:
Spoiler:“We discuss Alan’s Tabula Rasa rewrite. How could Lorne top his barefoot scene in Doppelganger? Well how about this meaty role? Oh, and poor Katie.”
Spoiler:Poor Katie? Does he mean Katie Brown? And is it "poor" like poor in sense that something happens to her, or "poor" like that something happens to Rodney?
Anyway, spamity spam, gun porn:

Spoiler:
Spoiler:more likely he dumps her, or she dumps him for fawning over Sam. (god please don't let him fawn!) i was never averse to Katie, but i'll not be sad if she gets the elbow either.
personally if they insist on ships, i'd rather it be with a minor character than a major one - that messes with the dynamics too much.
Loved the pics - i need more gun porn, mind if i snurch?

Hey, gang. I've been on holiday (still am) and internet-less. I've got a flakey wifi so a quick post to say I'm still here! It's going to take forever to read the posts I've missed. And I missed David's birthday, too, although I did think of him in the airport wondering how he was spending it (watching movies and play with his new nail guns, apparently, according to his blog).
Miss you all and hope you are all well.

Hi there watcher, good to see that you're fine!
gravelgerdie, don't even get me startedon computers, my new one still isn't working... *grrr*
I can't be here much at the moment, real life, or better *work* is hell right now and takes up all my energy. I hope the weekend comes quickly!!!
Anyway, Joe Mallozzi reposted the spoiler poem today and he said one thing that made me go ! Thank God it didn't come true, thank God! Yes, it would have been interesting in a way, but when it's canon you just can't change it or end the storyline afterwards like in fanfic, and I really wouldn't have wanted to see this in every ep:
Spoiler:parenthood for another
JM (Refers to a season four episode. This one was the biggest longshot to come to fruition but we were considering making McKay a daddy. However, circumstances led us to change this particular storyline as we didn’t want to have two characters facing parenthood in the same season).
