Thank you for the birthday wishes.

I had a good day even if I had to work.

A simple walk meet-up turned into a lunch meet-up instead (due to the weather being crappy), then was smuggled into the old office building for a quick visit and pick up some stuff (very few ex-colleagues were there to notice me ), and then had the good fortune of working from home again in the afternoon.

Closed the day gaming with my sister and watching TV. Tomorrow, I mean today Sunday, my best friend is coming over for some boardgaming.

Well, as of about 6am we have about 3 inches of snow outside. It's now supposed to change to rain for a bit, then go back to snow later in the afternoon.

I have a weird story to tell you. I did the ancestry.com DNA thing awhile ago. I think I mentioned it. (I'm basically super duper white). Yesterday I got a message from a former coworker of mine. Her brother did it too, and my name came up as a DNA match. Turns out we're second cousins!! Her grandfather and my grandmother were siblings. I knew her last name was my grandmother's maiden name, but it's a fairly common British sounding name so I never put any thought into it. Too freaking weird!

Good, looks like it's not too bad for you back there, hope it stays that way!

Our snow forecast for later in the week keeps getting dialed down, but the cold is also getting extended; we may not see temps get back over 40 until Tuesday of next week.

The Eagles are playing too, but they will end up in the playoffs as a wild card win or lose.

So it's a whole big nothing burger. Next comes the playoffs, then the Superbowl (my current money is on the Ravens beating the 49ers in the big game). Then football season is over.
Mmmm, burgers... (can you tell I haven't had breakfast yet? )

        And hey, there's always hockey...

@ the line in bold -- so your general caucasian variety: Celtic, Anglo-Saxon, maybe a bit of Dane.

That's unfortunate!! It will warm up here. It'll be 54 on Wednesday. We wound up getting 5 inches of heavy snow. My shoveling guy just showed up.

I wish I could get into hockey. Or basketball. With hockey, I can't follow the puck so I can never figure out how to follow the action. With basketball, the squeaking shoes aggravate the heck out of me. Last time the Celtics were in it, I watched with the volume off. But then I found something else to annoy me - players chewing on their mouth guards. Same reason I don't like Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs. When players chew on mouth guards, it's like nails on a chalkboard for me.

Yup!! My niece came up with that description for it.

And because of this realization, I'm wondering if my logical math brain comes from my paternal grandmother's side, since my cousin is also a computer programmer. I always thought my math brain came from my paternal grandfather. Which was kinda sexist of me, come to think of it. Hmmm....

Oooooh, I hear you on the squeaking shoes, it's so annoying! The chewing on the mouthguards I'm ambivalent about...I wear one overnight and I can definitely say that though they're comfortable to wear, they're still awkward. I can understand players wanting to pop them out for a little bit between plays but not wanting to hold them in their grass and mud dirtied hands.

                SNOW!!

Well, when I say snow, I really mean icy rain but also actual snowflakes falling from the sky.

What do you call a situation where it's raining and the sun is shining in English?

In Dutch it's "Kermis in de hel" which translates to "Funfair in hell" but I'm fairly sure that's not how you say that in English.

Anywho, that's what happened during my lunch walk -- it was snowing and the sun was shining, and it was cold too. Temps are just below, around or just above 0° Celsius at the moment, with a north-north easterly wind making it feel even colder. WINTER IS HERE!

As long as it doesn't rain... cause we've seen enough of that in past weeks, flooding included (not in my immediate area).

Next one who claims the groundwater tables are too low is going to get smacked.

Well, I see that Michigan beat Washington last night. Sorry!!

In pro-football news, there's a lot of annoyance coming out because one of the playoff games is going to be shown exclusively on the streaming Peacock service ($). That's a whole lot of BS right there!! I will not be paying for a membership, even though I'd really love to watch the Chiefs-Dolphins game. Peacock is NBC's fledgling online service, and they are clearly trying to get more customers this way. They do the same thing during the Olympics. To paraphrase Mean Girls: stop trying to make Peacock happen. It's not going to happen.

I hear you, but most players have them attached to their helmets for this reason. So they can pop them out and not have to touch them. I don't know why it irritates me so much.

I suppose it's intended to be a "pretty" way of saying it (which it is, if you're inside looking out at it).

We're sticking with "Funfair in hell", I guess.

We made the laptop shenanigans worse ourselves today -- we broke the hardware.

So, one of the laptops kept complaining something was wrong with the harddrive so we opened it up and looked under the hood (as it were). We checked every plate and then closed it up again.

Alas, we had to call time of death ... at 1205 ... we did everything we could to save it.

I mean, we even took a page out of the John Sheppard computer repair handbook but nothing worked -->

The three of us were laughing so hard the others were wondering if we'd lost our collective minds.
