September 26, 2007 - Stargate: Atlantis cast member Paul McGillion has revealed that he has auditioned for the role of U.S.S. Enterprise chief engineer Montgomery "Scotty" Scott in director J.J. Abrams' big-screen Star Trek reboot.

That would be soooo cool if Paul got the role. Scotty was my favorite Star Trek character! And to have Paul play Scotty.... wow.... could it get any better?!

OK, so now we know he DID audition so really throw out those letters of endoresement. He is now backed by Chris Doohan, Jimmy Doohan's son. Chris had this to say about Paul:

I know that the chances that I would be the next Scotty are slim to none. That being said, I think Paul McGillion is a GREAT choice for the role of Scotty. He has a great accent and I think that he actually looks like my father. He would be a much better Scotty then McAvoy.

I sincerely hope Paul gets the role of Scotty. Ever since hearing rumors about a new Star Trek movie, I've been looking forward to it. (Especially, when those rumors turned out to be true!)

And if Paul's in it, it just gets that much better!

This news has made me all giddy! Paul as Scotty (too perfect), Zachary Quinto as Spock, J.J. Abrams at the helm... This ST movie could turn out to be quite a must-see! And I'm relieved it films over the hiatus. Much as I'd love to see Paul as Scotty, not at the expense of a possible return as Beckett. LOVE that Chris Doohan is backing him!

Wow, I feel really out of it. I don't watch "Heroes" (what!) so I'm not familiar with Zach Quinto. And I don't know the other actors cast so far either.

I think it would be wonderful if Paul got the part. What better endorsement could you get than from Jimmy's son?

I don't watch Heroes either. I do know the actor who is playing Chekov (Anton) because he is the main role in the film "Jack" that Paul was in (GREAT film, great actor). Here's to hoping they can work together again!!!

I watch Heroes! I love it.

The character Zach plays is very creepy. It will be interesting to see how he portrays Spock.

It wasn't until this news about Paul's audition that I felt true excitement about the movie and my feelings seem to be shared by many others.

Chris Doohan is being very supportive of Paul. I think it's lovely.
