I really like the ending though, it's just so great, even though I don't like John Sheppard in particular.

This still means that no Ancients should have had blue eyes, though, because they'd have passed the trait on to the seeded humans who had their DNA. Perhaps the easiest way around it all is to accept that the Stargate universe is very different to our own so new findings in genetics don't always apply.
The subject of genes reminds me of the ATA gene. This has to be an artificial addition after humans had been seeded back on Earth and in Pegasus. It only got passed on when an Ancient with the gene had a fling with a second generation human or gave the treatment to a second generation human.
Perhaps some humans in Pegasus were given the gene because they were going to be trained to operate Ancient technology. When it came to the primitive tribesmen on Earth, maybe Janus treated some of them. In 'Before I Sleep' he learned that Earth humans would find Atlantis 10,000 years in his future and he thought that the ATA gene would be very useful for them.Last edited by ciannwn; 27 June 2011, 12:30 AM.sigpic

Further thoughts about why the ATA gene is rare in second generation humans.
1: Beckett's gene therapy works less than 50% of the time. Maybe, if the gene is artificial, it doesn't get passed on as often as 'natural' genes. Eg. ATA Fred has 5 kids and none of them get the gene while ATA Freda has 5 kids and only one gets the gene.
2: Location of populations on Earth. Beckett is from Scotland and Sheppard of European descent. If most of the ATA people were in Europe, the majority of ATA bloodlines could have been wiped out due to things like the Black Death, wars and executions for heresy or witchcraft etc. In Pegasus, the majority of ATA bloodlines could have been wiped out because of cullings.
3: On the other hand, rareness could be relative on Earth because only people in the Stargate Program are being tested for it. Even if the gene's very common in certain groups like the Kalahari Bushmen or the Sami reindeer herders in Lapland, Stargate Program geneticists wouldn't be testing these groups for it.sigpic

Is Wraith silk equally tough? If so, it's a shame the Wraith never thought of making bulletproof vests from it after the Atlantis expedition arrived.
I just wanted to add that genes like the one for blue eyes can occur spontaneously in different populations, across several generations and millennium. This means, ostensibly, that blue eye colour could have evolved separately in Pegasus without any intervention from the Ancients.
I like the idea of the ATA being artificial, as there is no reason for it to be evolved naturally. In fact, that just doesn't make sense if only because of the length of time the Ancients would need to be exposed to the artificial environment they created.sigpic

Hello, I know this is not wraith, but I would like to know your opinion about this

According to Dr. Beckett, who discovered its existence, the ATA gene is always on, instructing various cells in the body to produce a series of proteins and enzymes that interact with the skin, the nervous system and the brain, allowing gene carriers to operate Ancient technology by thought alone.sigpic

The Ancients wouldn't have invented this technology in hope that a genetic mutation in the future would allow them to operate it.sigpic
