        Nice pictures.

Here's some stuff from the Geneva convention I thought you'd find interesting.

Art. 13. Prisoners of war must at all times be humanely treated. Any unlawful act or omission by the Detaining Power causing death or seriously endangering the health of a prisoner of war in its custody is prohibited, and will be regarded as a serious breach of the present Convention. In particular, no prisoner of war may be subjected to physical mutilation or to medical or scientific experiments of any kind which are not justified by the medical, dental or hospital treatment of the prisoner concerned and carried out in his interest.

Likewise, prisoners of war must at all times be protected, particularly against acts of violence or intimidation and against insults and public curiosity.

Measures of reprisal against prisoners of war are prohibited.

Art. 14. Prisoners of war are entitled in all circumstances to respect for their persons and their honour.

        And another quote from it

No physical or mental torture, nor any other form of coercion, may be inflicted on prisoners of war to secure from them information of any kind whatever. Prisoners of war who refuse to answer may not be threatened, insulted, or exposed to unpleasant or disadvantageous treatment of any kind.

They certainly didn't apply this to Bob.

Thank you - this was interesting. I had never looked this up....

They didn't apply it to Steve either -

"Art. 13. Prisoners of war must at all times be humanely treated."

His cell was small and there was no place to sit or lay down. (The wraith have benches in their holding cells). Plus he had no privacy at all and was starving. The ancients desgined that cell so that tells you something about them. He was separated from his hive and they must really get to know each other well since they are very old. They must have formed some special attachments. It would have been very lonely for Steve.

"In particular, no prisoner of war may be subjected to physical mutilation or to medical or scientific experiments of any kind which are not justified by the medical, dental or hospital treatment of the prisoner concerned and carried out in his interest"

So they come in to his little cell, stun him and take a sample. (I'm assuming it was more than blood) without his knowledge or permission. And then there is the whole thing with the experiment with the Hoffins. I don't belive that they intended to kill Steve, but the fact that they tricked him into talking (he really didn't - he was vauge) when they figured he would not get a real meal was low.

"Likewise, prisoners of war must at all times be protected, particularly against acts of violence or intimidation and against insults and public curiosity."

Sheppard insulted Steve and while Steve got a few jabs of his own in, Sheppards taunts about being so close to his feeding source but yet so far was mean.

"Art. 14. Prisoners of war are entitled in all circumstances to respect for their persons and their honour."

Well - They certiantly didn't respect him, calling him a monster and saying "Well he's going to die anyway so we might as well make good use of him while he's still alive". Plus, aren't POW's today allowed to communicate with their families? At least to say they are alive?

"No physical or mental torture, nor any other form of coercion, may be inflicted on prisoners of war to secure from them information of any kind whatever. Prisoners of war who refuse to answer may not be threatened, insulted, or exposed to unpleasant or disadvantageous treatment of any kind."

As above - They pretty much said "Betray your hive or suffer a long horrible death". What Steve said to Sheppard was true - Even if Steve told him the location of every Hive ship in the Galaxy - It would have made no difference to Atlantis.

Even though the Wraith were not present at the signing of the convention, they are sentient beings.

            That's why I posted it.

Here's how they define a POW.

Art. 4. A. Prisoners of war, in the sense of the present Convention, are persons belonging to one of the following categories, who have fallen into the power of the enemy:

            (1) Members of the armed forces of a Party to the conflict, as well as members of militias or volunteer corps forming part of such armed forces.

            (2) Members of other militias and members of other volunteer corps, including those of organized resistance movements, belonging to a Party to the conflict and operating in or outside their own territory, even if this territory is occupied, provided that such militias or volunteer corps, including such organized resistance movements, fulfill the following conditions:[ (a) that of being commanded by a person responsible for his subordinates; (b) that of having a fixed distinctive sign recognizable at a distance; (c) that of carrying arms openly; (d) that of conducting their operations in accordance with the laws and customs of war.

            (3) Members of regular armed forces who profess allegiance to a government or an authority not recognized by the Detaining Power.

            (4) Persons who accompany the armed forces without actually being members thereof, such as civilian members of military aircraft crews, war correspondents, supply contractors, members of labour units or of services responsible for the welfare of the armed forces, provided that they have received authorization, from the armed forces which they accompany, who shall provide them for that purpose with an identity card similar to the annexed model.

And we always have to consider what they did to Michael. *Curses TPTB*

Must go work on Wraithy projects-oops, have school.

My favorite part is how at no point does the wording specify that the POWs must be human. That was IIRC one of the major points that people use to justify the various mistreatments of Wraith POWs, that the geneva convention only applies to humans.

If those really are direct quotes from the convention then that "not human" excuse holds no water what so ever.

They've violated every single rule quoted in that portion you posted, multiple times in some cases, and with gleeful enthusiasm while they did it.

              "Good guys" indeed.

I shouldn't watch Misbegotten-it makes me too angry.

If only Atlantis had tried some aspect of appropriate force before going to biological weaponry. They have to try about the most drastic way to end this-first.

There need to be consequences for stupidity as well.

And Ronon in there-I'm sorry, but if you trapped humans on a lonely planet with nothing else to eat, I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to eat each other. But of course we have to consider ourselves morally superior.

                      Sorry, I'm ranting.

I'll go back to my school work.

Nice work, wriathlord. I especially like the "I am your death one."
