The protruding spine is at the hollow of their back for the most part - if they lie on their back it might not even touch the ground. But, remember too, that it is inside of them, not something attached to the outside. So it would be more like a support...just like a spine on a very thin person, not something poking into them, but something poking into whatever they are lying on. It's damn sexy...and I really wouldn't mind running my fingers down it...

I was reading some the posts about how the writer are trying to make the Wraith even more alien by

having a protruding spine and no nips ( aw now they won't be able to wear nip rings ). I was thinking of J M he is so trying to turn us off from the Wraith but, it's not working. I think the more tptb try to make the Wraith even more weird the more we love them

I did wonder this when you mentioned their lack of nips. Why wuld the queens have breasts if they are not to be used for young, unless they are just a leftover of their lesser human side.

after seeing vegas wraith do you think it would be uncomfortable for a wraith to lay on its back like Todd did in common ground?
Also makes you wonder where else Todd has tattoos.

I'm wondering if the ridge is not actually the bones extending from the spine. Maybe it's cartilage growth extending from the bone. Or maybe it's vestigial carapace modification that grows from the dermis layer. And I would think it would be uncomfortable to lie on one's back for a lengthy duration if it were bone, and possibly ruining one's back support. (Though they do have their healing ability.) It explains the standing in stasis thing though.

... also wondering if Todd still has them. Do male Wraith lose them with age or do they change shape? And if he should have them, did the Genii saw/filed/etc them off?

Quick Vegas observation

Nothing like a little gushing over guys with protruding bones! I have to say, though, that I'm really glad they didn't give them gills, or something...not sure how I'd handle that...

I have to get some sleep, too...and dream about nippleless chests, and bony ridges, and just about the hawtest Wraith we've seen yet! I'm also gonna think about Steve and Todd and Rhys and Eddie...definitely Eddie...with that nice fingerhold they have running down their backs.

Oh - seriously...speaking of which...

You know how the queen's throne has that crease in the middle - maybe it's to accomodate the spinal ridge.

@ StarOcean - I, too, wondered if it was bone, or a sort of cartilage associated with a 'fin', or like spines on an iguana. In the end, however, I think it might be bone...but I certainly wouldn't mind if it was more like spines that some animals have, or even the ridges some insects have on their exoskeleton.

That's another thing that bugs me - we, the audience, can see the 'brotherhood' between Todd and Sheppard, but the writers just ignore it and fail to tap into the great possibilities there are for their relationship.

As far as the ep goes - some think Shep survived. Maybe he did. Maybe Todd did, too. Who knows - we never saw a dead body, and that goes for Spike, too.

Speaking of which...he was a very cleaver fella. Love the comment about how they like to play games. I've said that before - the Wraith are like children...they take long naps, they're always hungry, and they love to play games!

Oh...about Todd. Chris did a fantastic job, as usual. But when he was going on about 'busy, busy, busy'...all I could think about were bees. Yes, Wraith are busy bees. They don't just sit back and relax, but they must keep thinking, keep active, keep doing. It makes me wonder if Todd's insanity was as much from hunger as from not being able to keep 'busy'.

@ Sparrow_hawk - Yup...Queens with boobs are sexier than Queens without. Besides, it's not like they can take them off Andee and the others who have portrayed queens...so they have to go along with it. But that doesn't mean they are functioning mammary glands, right? They could be undeveloped, having the form but not the necessary parts (nipples, fully-formed milk ducts, etc) for actual milk production and feeding. Give them another 100,000 years...then maybe. But for now, I like the idea that they are not quite as human as we'd like them to be.

Well, as some would like them to be. I am perfectly happy thinking about them as beautiful bugs!

Hey, I thought I was the only one who doesn't like the mythology aspect of Stargate! My problem is not that I find it offencive towards human creativity, it's just that I find it illogical and rather ridiculous. While I don't mind the idea that some human myths are misinterpretations of events related to an alien presence, directly associating gods to individual aliens seems absurd to me.

It's not just offensive to human creativity. There's backhanded ethnocentric undertones. Notice that "mythological" gods of "pagan" religion and non-European regions are actually all Goaulds who are the ones that aided human advancement in their regions through tyranny. While the Ancients left warnings about the Ori through Christian religion and English mythical figures (Merlin) are Ancients who guided, but all in all, didn't interfere. Ditto with the Asgards. So the English got their advancements duly from themselves.

Not a nice message. But one that comes up when the writers are think it's okay to turn other race's gods into aliens and are too afraid to do the same when it comes to Christian religion. And being unable to resist the temptation of glamorizing.

Sad to say, but based on this season, I'm glad that they never delved much into Wraith culture or Wraith as individuals. Because I'm pretty sure whatever they come up with will be intended to put humans at odds with them and framing it so that the Wraith can be morally judged. *rollseyes*

I agree with almost everything you've been discussing through the night about Vegas and TPTB - so much wasted potential in the Wraith!

And as for your observations on Spike Wraith -
