Random thought - why would the Wraith self destruct have a timer on it?

As any self-respecting self-destruct device technician - a very specialised field - will tell you, it is in fact impossible to create a self-destruct device which doesn't have a countdown.

I like the transmission idea, although maybe it's an intelligence report more than a personality update; just making sure that the hive knows what it was that killed you. After all, a Wraith dying must be a bit of an event, given how tough they are to kill.
    Behold the majesty that is...GERALD!

Any self-respecting physicist will probably tell you it's imposible to travel millions of light years through a stable wormhole by means of an ancient device called a Stargate, but hey - you're probably right

the wraith can comunicate telepatically so they dont need the beeping to warn them... if you want to blow away just warn everyone near you you are going to do so and let them get far away from you

Random Thought seems cool. Maybe the conscious is sent to a hive pod so the Wraith is regrown.

However, the Random Thought may not be accurate. The Wraith are NOT at the level of the Ancients in terms of technology. The reason that the Wraith won over the Ancients is because the Wraith outnumbered them and were off the guerilla tactics.

Let's put this into reality terms. Who was more superior militarily in the Vietnam War? Americans. Who had to retreat out? Americans. Why? Because the Vietnamese Guerilla Fights hurt a lot.

Therefore, a suicidal army ready to sacrifice every last man to kill the enemy is more dangerous than a technologically advanced one.

Therefore, the Wraith could have committed suicide to escape capture regardless of being reincarnated (which literally means, go back into the flesh). Steve didnt flinch as he reached for the suicide self-destruct (though Shepherd stopped him, thank god.)

The Wraith think as a hive. They lack many feelings and motives like self-preservation. They are ready to die for their race. They are driven by instinct, not by intellect.

            True.

This brings up some interesting ideas about the distinction between no-face troopers and the Steve type Wraith.

The no-faces stood and fought, while Steve tried to lurk away into the shadows. This is proof (not that we need any more) that Steve "outranks" these soldiers.

It was only when Steve was faced with his own capture, and he apparently decided there was no way out, that he attempted combat and eventual self-destruct.

This is just speculation, but I like to think that the no-faces have no inherent personality and are created with the intention of being nothing more than soldiers (ala Kull Warrior).

We're not talking about the self destruct in the ship, Kelsito.
