Well, I didn't necessarily mind the way in which Dr. Weir "died", left the series, what I did indeed mind is the "Ghost in The Machine" episode.
I had totally forgotten about that episode. IMHO that was an episode that should never have happened. They should have done it with Torri and no one else. No Torri, no episode, but no problem either.A black hole swallowed this sig pic.

As many others have said, way way way too much Keller....and as for McKeller.......the less said about that the better.
But, as everything constructive that can be said about those two subjects has already been said I'll talk about the rest.
Firstly the season seemed to be about nothing at all. It was disjointed, there wasn't a season long throughline that could be followed. Laying the foundations of a future season might have been all well and good (especially if they had actually gotten future seasons) but why did that mean they ignored Season 5. It felt like they sat down and wrote the concept for season 5 on the back of and envelope and it amounted to McKay and Keller in love. It felt like there were 15 filler episodes and a couple that had a little bit to do with previous storylines. (And even that was completely idiotic, The Seed, Whispers, Outcast were all connected to the Michael plotline yet had no real connection to either Search and Rescue or The Prodigal).
Then of course there was the disaster with Keller's wraith drug......almost the exact same as the retrovirus just with a change of name. Same blooming plot as we had seen before, is it ethical, should we use it, yes we will, oh guess what, unexpected consequences. First time it was done was fairly interesting, I really didn't need to see the exact same issues again
To sum up the season was dull, uninspired, focused on two very overwritten characters having an exceptionally unlikeable romance which ruined several episodes and generally just wasn't very good.
Then there were the rest of the characters. Ronan looked like a complete chump, mooning after Keller and being the patsy in helping McKay and Keller find true lurve and his character development amounted to getting a new crush by the end of the season. Great.
Sheppard........other than Remnants and Vegas (which while okay had nothing to do with anything else that was going on) was just absent. And given that he was the hero of the show, this wasn't a good thing.
Teyla. Became a mommy, fretted over that a bit then got straight back to work. Her only other storyline was killing Michael when he threatned her baby. Great. Susch a worthwhile payoff for Season Four (though given that mess maybe that's not such a bad thing)
And I still aint got a clue what was so super about supababy.
Woolsey. Turned up, was amusing. Went through the requisite road to damascus moment where he realised that there is more to life than simply following the rules (nice but pretty certain we already saw that during his time on SG-1)
Beckett. Hey, we have a clone, let's not investigate any of the ramifications of that, moral, physical, relationship. Because viewers watching a scifi show would far rather watch McKeller on a date than be interested in that.....
Then of course there was Ghost in the Machine........I actually think in this case it would have been better just to forget about Weir than come up with an episode that somehow seemed to have nothing to do with anything that had come before, and yet totally destroyed what little interest there was left. So I guess that was an achievement of sorts.
All in all, to me, and usual disclaimer, my own thoughts, no one else's blah blah blah, the season just seemed to be about nothing. i don't think the writers were truly interested in any other characters but Keller or McKay and they had no interest in even attempting to develop a plot line.
For a show that started so promisingly it was a bitter disappointment, but most of all, with a couple of honourable exceptions, Seasons Five, just wasn't very enjoyable.

They changed the dynamic in season 5, and that ruined for me.
Season 1-4 John, Teyla, Rodney, Aiden, then Ronon went through the Stargate. Then stuff happened........The End.
For me, Season five was just not as enjoyable, It had a character I disliked, A pairing I loathed. There were whole episodes that Teyla & Ronon weren't even in, a few that John or Rodney were in it for like less that a minute. How is that even the show that I wanted to watch?
I have no idea why it is such a big deal that people didn't like Season 5.
Are there threads that ask why there is so much love for season 5 and then ask it like it is a crime to really like it?
There are 100 episodes of SGA and 5 seasons. Not everyone is going to like all of them (yes I know someone is going to come and say WHY yes of course I love all of them) *eyeroll* however, there is probably a show out there that they don't like all of the episodes for and say so.Why did you do such a thing, you mediocre dunces?

I'm not sure about S4. She was missing from a lot of episodes. She may have had an arc but she didn't do much besides those episodes
I'm gonna have to say that season 5 was the worst for Teyla (and in general for me). In season 3, she played a relatively decent part in a number of team oriented episodes (in comparison to season 5). I could go episode by episode that Teyla was in for both seasons and say why season 3 was better. Although, I'm still of the opinion that over all she needed better focus and development than what she got throughout the series. The only episode that Teyla was really featured in for season 5 was The Queen (and arguably S&R/DV), and that episode couldn't have happened if Submersion (Season 3 Ep.) was never made.
As for the "Teyla arc" in season 4, I'll just do a repost w/ minor additions to what I said about that on the "Why was Teyla underused" thread:
Ah, but the "Great Teyla arc" wasn't really about Teyla at all. It was about Michael. It was about how Michael stole Teyla's people. It was about how Michael turned the father of Teyla's child into one of his minions. For the briefest of moments, it was about Teyla looking for her people (and even that got hijacked by another character in my opinion ). Back to Michael. It was about how Michael had a master plan to rule the galaxy. As a part of his plan, Michael kidnapped Teyla through crafty manipulation, and then the Atlantis team needed to find Michael in order to find Teyla. Michael wants Teyla's baby so he can do "great things" with him. Michael tries to convince Teyla to be his lady love so they can rule the galaxy together, but she says no. Teyla's scared for her child and tries to get Kanaan to help. Kanaan starts to help, but then Michael steps in with his mind control and sends him off.
The Atlantis team finds Beckett who is a clone and is dying and has been mistreated by Michael for 2 years. In spite of his condition, Beckett wants to help find Teyla and rescue her from Michael. They finally catch up with Michael, and Beckett tries to save Teyla, but Michael works his mind control thing again and he escapes with Teyla. Then, after more searching, and time-traveling for Shep (where he's told about Michael and how to stop him), the Atlantis team thought that maybe they caught up with Michael to get Teyla, but in all actuality, it was a trap set by Michael that almost killed them. This ends season 4 with a cliffhanger.
Now it's time for season 5. The team is still chasing Michael. They find a way onto his ship and they save Teyla who goes into labor. Of course it is McKay that delivers the baby, and he has a nice Kodak moment with Teyla before Shep and Ronon come back for their escape. They don't put an end to Michael, but they do save Teyla and her people. All seems well. Then - you guessed it - Michael shows up again for Teyla and her baby. He still wants to rule the galaxy with her as his lady love; he forgives her betrayal. Teyla still doesn't want him. Michael also wants revenge against the people of Atlantis. After a game of cat-and-mouse, she causes him to fall to his death(?).
They didn't flipping write about Teyla. They wrote for Michael!!! Teyla was merely the catalyst that was used by the writers to tell Michael's story after his initial escape from Atlantis. Wanna know how I know? After all is said and done, I came away from "The big Teyla arc" knowing waaaaay more about Michael (a recurring character) than I still have yet to know about Teyla (a main character) after 5 years of shows. Don't get me wrong. I like Michael and his story. I just get a bit ruffled when the writers say that they were somehow delving into a huge arc about Teyla. They were not.
Cheers.Last edited by Atlantis4Life; 22 August 2010, 09:10 PM.
