If a planet decided to bury the gate, the Wraith may just show up in ships one day, eat whatever they want, then turn the planet into a graveyard so those people don't turn into a problem.

It depends how extensive humanity is in the galaxy. that datamodule said like 30 hive ships on the move? but there might be thousands or millions of worlds.
the policy of stargate burying would therefore be acceptable losses. without the stargate network perhaps the wraith would starve or be forced into more extensive hybernation and dependency on only one or two worlds.
when we see our atlantian heros arive at these planets the locals are generally just looking confused - or are in hiding - therefore the gate is not used much for trade - from what we've seen so far.
since the gate is somewhat rarely used - maybe they'd better of trying to be like our earth. basically independent and uplift themselves to a position of strength.
the bury the gate trick worked for earth against the gould - perhaps mass burying would work against the wriath too.
they could always unbury it, unshield it like SGC though.
And besides, The Wraith care nothing of time. They can lazily get around to putting their herds back in line. 60 ships 1000 worlds. Each ship could take 15 or so worlds. Not an issue.sigpic
