Saw it yesterday afternoon, loved it to bits.

    Especially loved
    Spoiler:
Billy Connolly's turn as ever-so-slightly-Glasgwegian dwarf Dain Ironfoot.

However, I'm hoping the eventual extended DVD edition will explain
    Spoiler:
how Gandalf got his hat and staff back after Elrond, Galadriel, Saruman, and Radagast helped him escape from Dol Guldur.

And now I come to think on it, where did the
    Spoiler:
    giant tunnelling worms
come from? I don't remember them in the book...

Long before you and I were born, others beat these benches with their empty cups,
To the night and its stars, to the here and now with who we are.

Another sunrise with my sad captains, with who I choose to lose my mind,
And if it's all we only pass this way but once, what a perfect waste of time.

Are these previews or advance screenings? I'm wondering if The Hobbit has vastly varied opening dates around the world now.

Ah, finally someone else has watched it.

I have to wait until Monday to enjoy
        Spoiler:
Billy Connolly's original voice, when we can watch the English version.
I'm really looking forward to it.

I've read that the extended version will be about 30 minutes longer, so there's hope for al lot of more things. I'd like to see more of Beorn and the eagles.

As far as I know the
        Spoiler:
        giant tunnelling worms
are mentioned by Tolkien himself somewhere.

And I think that one of Bard's
        Spoiler:
decendants must be MacGyver, first how he escapes from the prison and then how he finishes of Smaug.

        I liked how Thorin's
        Spoiler:
gold sickness was shown, and how the golden floor from DoS played a part in it.

And of course Howard Shore's music is awesome.

There are varying release dates depending on what country you're in.

The New Zealand opening date was 11th December. UK opening date was the 12th.

The US (and I assume Canadian) opening date is the 17th. Greece 18th December. Australia 26th December. and poor ol' China has to wait until January 23rd before they get to see it.

Just got back from seeing it, its fricking awesome!

Loved all the little jokes Peter Jackson got into it from the other films
            Spoiler:
Legolas riding something and jumping around as always, and he finally ran out of arrows!
Im sure there are more Im forgetting, need to watch it again...

Wish we had seen more of Sarumans turn to evil, but maybe for the extended edition, and also Thorins funeral.
And the money grabbing weasel dying! Also, more Boern...

Interesting path they set Legolas down though...
            Oh, and Dain!

              Spoiler:
Did Thranduil show where Legolas got his fighting moves from?

I'm happy: I discovered my local theater already has the movie and not tomorrow, as it was announced on their page. So I'm watching tonight.*happy dance*.

I'll try to remember to use the spoiler tags because many of us will not have watched it by then.

the giant tunneling worms are mentioned in the LOTR books. It was when Gandalf recounts his battle with the balrog and how they both climbed through tunnels that were made by "nameless things" that lived deeper than the dwarves had ever delved. "Far, far below the deepest delving of the Dwarves, the world is gnawed by nameless things. Even Sauron knows them not. They are older than he. Now I have walked there, but I will bring no report to darken the light of day." - Gandalf
