Who are your favorite TV heroines? They don't have to be limited to science-fiction or fantasy. A few that come to mind are Captain Janeway, Sarah Connor (in the TV series), and Laura Doughtery (Surface, obscure but awesome series).

Interesting. This does not factor into my draw towards a heroine. Take Janeway, for example. For me, the draw was her determination and refusal to back down from space bullies. She was going to get her ship and crew back to Earth, and nothing was going to stop her. The writing was inconsistant at times, but overall, I think she's my favorite TV heroine. I will admit, I was relieved when they got rid of the granny bun in favor of the ponytail and later the short hair.

Actually, kind of a hard one... Probably Kate Todd - NCIS, Abby Maitland - Primeval, Claudia Brown - Primeval, Chloe Sullivan - Smallville, Snow White - Once Upon a Time, Samantha Carter - Stargate SG-1 and Zoe Washburne - Firefly/Serenity. Of course, this just makes me think of more and more...
I love that they are brave, loyal, can hold their own, even those that are thrust into the situations without trying to. They all have a sense of right and wrong and protecting what they deem worthy. When I think about them it makes me smile and want to go watch the shows... which is probably the main reason why I like them.

My two favorite heroines are Susan Ivanova on Babylon 5 and Sam Carter in the SG franchise. Both are strong, smart, feisty women who also have their vulnerable side. They're respected for their professionalism but aren't afraid to show their feminine side when the situation calls for it.
I also quite like Starbuck on nuBSG and Aeryn Sun on Farscape. Both are interesting characters, although I don't admire them as much as the other two because both have resorted to sex as a means of getting what they want.sigpic

As for Kira, heck yeah, one of my favorite DS9 characters. She went through so much on that show.
