    INTERSTELLAR

An epic journey through space and time worth watching just for the journey. Unfortunately the message of the journey is the simplistic Spielbergian "love conquers all".Nolan is not Kubrick.

Jules Verne's Rocket to the Moon (1967).

Phineas T. Barnum and friends finance the first flight to the moon but find the task a little above them. They attempt to blast their rocket into orbit from a massive gun barrel built into the side of a Welsh mountain, but money troubles, spies and saboteurs ensure that the plan is doomed before it starts...

I suppose you could call it a spiritual successor to "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines", given that Terry Thomas' character in "Rocket to the Moon" - Capt. Sir Harry Washington-Smythe - is a virtual carbon copy of Sir Percy Ware-Armitage from "Flying Machines"

Long before you and I were born, others beat these benches with their empty cups,
To the night and its stars, to the here and now with who we are.

Another sunrise with my sad captains, with who I choose to lose my mind,
And if it's all we only pass this way but once, what a perfect waste of time.

          Chappie

          Short Circuit

After watching the former, I had to watch the latter. The robots in Chappie are much better designed for their purpose than the SAINTs in Short Circuit. Though, I suppose that's the best they could do 30 years ago. I enjoyed Chappie, but still prefer the more light-hearted Short Circuit.

I know the feeling. It was either pay full price now at a store about five minutes from my house or drive 35 minutes to a place I know will have it on sale.
