One good explanation I heard is that the reason fangirls are reacting so violently is because they feel like people who dislike the book are attacking their (very unrealistic) sexual fantasies.

Seriously, there needs to be a "talk to your kids about Twilight" campaign. There have already been incidents that could have turned lethal had not someone intervened, and at the rate things are going I worry that it's only a matter of time before someone gets killed. And I worry for the girls who think that Bella and Edward's relationship is realistic, let alone healthy.
Are you serious?? Care to give me a link to some of these incidents?

But I was once a tween, and I had this obsession with something called Stargate. Then again, most of the people I met had no idea what it was, so I can't say I was brainwashed into mob mentality. But even at that age I realised there was no point beating people up over a TV show, because that would be insulting the very thing I like!
    Same here!!

Twilight is just overall annoying. Yes, I read the books. Yes, I thought they were ok, but now I see that they are just shallow peices of crud. Stephene Meyer cannot hold a candle to the brilliance of Marian Zimmer-Bradley (R.I.P. G.o.F) what so ever. These obsessed Twilight Fangurls need something called a LIFE. This obessession is bad.

On another Twilight note, I feel *really* sorry for my English teacher. She bought 2 twilight posters to hang in the room (i am SO annoyed) and payed $5 each. I went on amazon to purchase a Stargate poster (she and I have a deal, I get to hang my SG poster since she's hanging those annoying T posters) and while I was at it, looked up some twilight posters. They were about $1.25 each. In short: my poor teacher payed more!
BTW, my poster was $20, it's framed.

Me and a friend where at a book store in the mall discussing how the books are essentially Harlequin romance novels, except with vampires. I walked away for a moment to check out a different aisle and when I came back he told me to check out the section that housed the Twilight 'novels.' He had taken a number of cheesy romance novels and spaced them out on top of the books. We laughed and laughed and then left them there.
I am both Pro-Keller and Pro-Beckett. No amount of Hail Mary's will save my soul from hell.

I heard of someone being stabbed a while back over Pokemon Cards. I can believe the claims that some of the less-mature Twilight fans attack people, and are aggressive about their fandom.

And that's called jumping to conclusions upon prejudice, and that's not very nice. Find me a proof apart from that "twilightsucks" site, it really must have hit the press, c'mon we're talking death threats, and I'll apologize to both of you, if you come up empty handed I'll get my apologies. Deal?
I can't give you death threats, but I can give you a mall riot. There also used to be footage of a fan just randomly going up and putting a sombrero on Robert Pattinson's head in a Mexico airport without his permission, but it was taken down.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's more things out there along that line, but I have a headache, so I'm not doing any more searching. (At least not tonight.)

But that's not the same, is it? That's bad logistics. Expecting 500 people and then realizing that ten times more people arrived, then panicking was plain amateur. Also fans can be obsessive when they want to see their idols, so accidents happen, which is sad (pathetic), but please don't try to convince me, this only applies to Twilight fans, 'cos I'll point and laugh at you. (And don't get me started on that "sombrero" story...)

I read the books, they are okay. First one was funny. Second on was bit blah since Bella keeps pinning for Edward. I sort got mad when she decided to take the vamp route and not say anything to her father or anyone. And like a narrow minded person give up all her future to stay 18

I'm like, is she sane to take the vamp route for one guy? She hadn't even lived her life yet.

Folks, I Do think this is a valid topic, and it can be DISCUSSED.

It however is not the place for snarking and insults.

why do you personally think SOME twilight fans are so OTT? What have you seen/not seen?

What is the phenomenon with this fandom that makes it different from others?

That being said, this is NOT the place to take pot shots at other fandoms. nor is it the place to disparage the opinion of another.

Let's give the topic a try without the name calling and bickering please

I've SEEN Twilight riots and stuff like that, I know their fandom is violently crazy. Stargate, thankfully, is not physically violent.

I finally just saw this movie, and well let me say that ANYONE getting the least bit nutso over this film or story needs to be immediately remanded to the nearest psychiatric ward. Ugghh. I saw Blood and Chocalate, and while miles away from being a good film, THAT was at least watchable. This movie made me cringe and want to vomit...that was in the first half hour. After that delirium set in.

Someone please explain the logic of why some immortal, vampire no less, would spend his days going to a high school no less? Come on, how freaking idiotic is that, or better yet how freaking dumb do we have to be to swallow that story? Yeah, if they are trying to stay under the radar, going to a high school really isn't doing a bang up job. But, he does get to meet nice little high school virgins. Excuse me, but a little dose of reality says they would be more apt to be hanging around Vegas getting escorts. Any wonder why people are getting dumber by the day, they get spoon fed this crap while truly good movies get ignored.

If anyone wants to see a really good vampire movie, go see "Let the right one in". That is an amazing story, and I can 110% guarantee you will leave the theater not feeling so dumbed down for watching something as banal as Twilight.
