PIC: Goku in Super Saiyan Ape Form?
A major spoiler about the Dragonball movie was sent in by CBM scoopers this morning. A pic that supposedly shows Goku transformed in his ape-like stage of power.
The image, if it is real, is a departure from the manga and TV series as it makes him look more alien than ape.

For the uninitiated, the Dragonball series of manga and TV cartoons follows a boy, Goku, from his youth to manhood as he learns martial arts mastery--and saves the world from extra-terrestrial baddies. Several "stages" of growth transform Goku from power to power, and in one form of "Super Saiyan" he turns into a giant monkey.

That looks idiotic. Don't get me wrong, it's a good makeup job, it just looks stupid.

So... I realize Goku's hair goes blonde and his eyes blue when he goes Super Saiyan... but why is the actor white? Sigh. Self-hating Japanese culture at its worst.

The movie looks SO low budget. And that's just from the promos! I must IMDB this for more merriment!

I wouldn't call this down the tube, it may be cheesy but it's still a big step up from Buffy or Torchwood.

I'd say that Buffy and Torchwood are well written shows with some nice effects. The original DB manga and anime are expansive and entertaining. This looks like it's going to majorly tank, not unlike Tank Girl.

Yeah, but they're still just TV shows, they can't compare to this.

Actors who've made their names on TV have seriously screwed themselves appearing in films. David Duchovny springs to mind. A bad movie can't compare to a good TV series. If the actor does good work in a great movie then they'll command millions per movie, that's great. If the actor does good work in a crappy movie, the stench will linger over their movie AND tv careers for a long time. Thank God Mulder found Californication. If you mean the massive amounts of exposure they'll get to audiences beyond those their tv shows reach normally, then I agree, but hopefully that exposure will be positive and beneficial to their careers. And, honestly, after Crouching Hidden, this really does seem like a step down for Chow in terms of quality.

Still, like all things, I'll remain cautiously optimistic. If for nothing else, my friends who loved DB and DBZ can go to the cinema and laugh/cry.

From the looks of the trailer, Piccolo uses a Dragon Ball as some sort of WMD, which frankly is ridiculous (in context). If the Dragon Balls do anything, ANYTHING aside from granting a wish when all seven are gathered (thus summoning the dragon) I will cry, like a hungry angry baby.
