My favorite was Pierce Brosnan (except I hated Die Another Day). Though I do respect Sean Connery for starting the whole thing. The other Bonds are "meh." But I was a Pierce gal.

Somehow, I can't picture MI-2 guy as Bond. His characters always seem a little...insane...in the projects I've seen him in. He was pretty nuts in MI-2. He was pretty nuts in some TV version of Arabian Nights. I dunno...I'd just half expect Bond to break down into a state of neurosis...

DAD wouldn't have been bad as another mindless sci-fi popcorn flick, but it wasn't Bond. Power armour and invisble cars are to unrealistic even for Bond, (with the obvious exception of Moonraker)

Die Another Day was not all bad. As a 'mindless popcorn romp' it actually worked very well. It also had numerous cool scenes. It was also gutsy to have 007 get caught once and not be able to escape on his own.

But, yes, the story then became a bit too much. They should have come up with something a bit more realistic. Still I thought DAD was better then Tomorrow Never Dies. Goldeneye is Brosnan's best outing as 007.

I grew up with Roger Moore, still I like Timothy Dalton best, I think (don't ask me why, can't really explain it, my mom's all like "only Sean Connery is Bond!" too). Haven't watched a single Bond movie since Brosnan took over, just can't stand this guy.

I've never heard of the new one and didn't notice him in "Deep Impact", which is the only one of his filmography I saw, I think, but I'm curious how he'll do. Sure gonna give him a try.

I'm gonna ask here because I keep hearing it: Do you think the Bond-concept in itself is outdated nowadays? I'm especially thinking of all this stuff feminists hate (although I heard Brosnan got his butt kicked in one of the more recent movies). Still, is it getting old or do you just have to change a bit and then can never get enough of it?

Pierce Brosman Goldeneye was his hit and only gem thats distinguished,The rest was average and so/so.

To me a good story is Sean Connery coming back as the elder senior James Bond and the new Young Blood James Bond jr comes in and cracks some heads. It might explain continuity a little bit atleast partially but surely it would give a good story.Another option for somthing fresh is make a James bond prequeil thats goes back to the cold war in the 80's.

Yeah, I grew up to Moore's Bond. But it wasn't until I started watching the older Connory movies that I became a fan. Moore's version of 007 is just a little to glib for my tastes and I stuck with the part for way to long. For Your Eyes Only should have been his last movie.

I like Brosnan for many of the same reasons I liked Connory. A dry wit instead of the 'banter' that Moore brought to it. With a hard edge underneath. Dalton also did the 'hard edge' stuff well but without the humor.

So my Bond favs are in order:
                Connory
                Brosnan
                Dalton
                Moore

Same here. I've also seen MI:2 but it's been too long. Maybe I'll rewatch it if this get confirmed.

But I'll give any 'official' Bond a try. I am however aware that this will be the first Bond cast by someone other the Cubby Broccoli. That makes me just a little nervous about the whole thing...

I think it has adapted to the times. Let's face facts, most action movies end with the hero 'getting the girl', Bond is no different. I think the only thing that they have to be careful of in this context is to not overdo it. Bond is the hero, period. If they are going to write in strong women they should be on the other team (so to speak). Usually when Bond has been given a female ally (like in DAD) that was supposed to be his equal it has turned out badly.

as a feminist, i've never hated bond. why? cos half the time, the people kickign his butt are women. (look at the two girls in diamonds are forever). the women he sleeps with aren't after marriage, but just want exactly the same thing he does..a bit of fun, and that's a very liberated attitude. the woman in bond films tend to be tough, liberated, intelligent and as capable of deviousness as the next man. so yeah, they're feminist movies!

If they were going to to do something like that that they'd have done it with the 50 year old Moore passing the baton to the much younger Dalton in the late 80s.

Right now I'm settling for the theory that sometime between '85 and '87 MI6 set up a fountain of youth for their top agent and it's near dead cert going to get re-used now.

As for the pre-quel idea. After Moore left the scene in the 80s the idea for a 50s set prequel was bounced around(so I heard during the time I hung in the Bond online fandom). At least one 90s critic bounced off the idea of setting the films 'to period'(i.e during the Cold War) but there's only a limited shelf life for that idea IMO.

Bottom line - I think they should leave things as they are.

Agreed. Altough I love the idea of Tarantino doing Casino Royale as a period piece. But that's not going to happen.

Looks as if the story was nothing more then another rumor. IMDB.com had this story on Friday:

Scottish actor Dougray Scott's mother has slammed reports her son is to play the next James Bond. The To Kill A King hunk, 38, was rumored to have beaten King Arthur star Clive Owen and Hulk actor Eric Bana to replace Pierce Brosnan in the 23rd Bond movie, after discussions with producer Barbara Broccoli. But Scott's mother, Elma Scott, says, "My other son David contacted him about the latest reports and he said it's not true. He has other commitments, so there is certainly nothing to say at the moment." Scott has just announced plans to do a film titled The Cone Gatherer, scheduled for release next year, in which he plays an objector to the Second World War who is sent to work on a country estate in Scotland.

That´s good, I´m still hoping that Bana will take the part. Or course if there is to be a Hulk 2 I´d rather see him do that

Quite weird because Dougray Scott as much as I didnt want him to be Bond was probably a better choice over the other axtors who were tipped to play Bond. Personally I gotta go with Adrian paul for the next Bond! I've been saying it for ages and so have a lot of people out there. He's been the one consistent favourite to play Bond since before Brosnan took over. obviously Brosnan was the favourite to taske it, but Paul was the next favourite. Many years later and he's still a favourite.

Adrian Paul is only 6 years younger then Brosnan. I feel that they should go with some younger then that, ideally around 35, so that he can last for at least 4-5 movies. Paul would at most be able to make 2.

I'm also sceptical that he's the right choice in general, but let's not get into that.

Did Brosnan give up because he got too old or because he had enough? Adrian Paul is one of these actors who looks younger than what he is. he's got the right looks to play Bond. I'm pretty sure he could pump out a Bond every two years and make 4 of these puppies before he was 55. He's only what? 40 something? And he's in good shape also.
